I want to be positive about this, and will enjoy the initial euphoria. But there's just part of me that feels like this isn't a great idea.

First of all, I feel that part of Keane's original success with us 14 years ago was to do with the fact he was managing players he had played with, or against, or even just who were professionals during the time he played. Not that current day players don't respect him, but I feel the 2008 players would have a better understanding of who Keane is and therefore deal with his personality better. Not to mention rightly or wrongly, modern players do tend to need a lighter touch. Perhaps Keane will adapt his style. I'm not sure.

Next of all, financially the game itself has changed so much. In 2008, we got promoted from the Championship with a spend of around 8million iirc, at the time one of the biggest spenders in the division. Nowadays teams are spending tens of millions and failing to get close. Granted COVID and situations like Derby and Sheff Wed should dissuade that behaviour somewhat. The point is we don't have the financial clout to cover up any managerial weaknesses Keane may have.

The game is also different tactically, I don't think you can get away with just motivating a team up the league anymore. There's a much greater focus on tactics and data than ever before, and again I have no idea how well Keane would adapt to that.

If he is the new manager I will support him, and I am ready to be proven totally wrong but it just feels like an appeal to emotion not logic.
I have similar reservations to you. But on the budget/recruitment point, Keane wouldn’t be the only one picking the players. Speakman has spoken a lot about getting the right mental profile of player in. So if Keane is being offered shortlists of players for positions, one would hope the players are going to be tough and react well to Keane’s style. It’s up to the recruitment team to find good fits for the club, and that includes fitting with the Head Coach

Why is Keane a better appointment than Grant McCann? I'm not saying he isn't, I don't know much about McCann I just want to know what his credentials are in 2022 other than a crowd pleaser
We are now relevant once again !!!! We are back without actually being back !!

I know Keane is no mug tactically but I do think his motivational skills at the time were a huge part of our promotion push. Our goal is to get promotion, or do as much as we can to try and get promotion. I still don't know how Keane addresses those goals.
So tactics aren't a concern now.

You think a goal is to get or try and get promotion, but don't think keane would do that?

You don't think keane would try?

Not trying to be funny, genuinely don't get your point.

Agbonlahors argument was ridiculous. Said Keane was a bad man manager because he didn't like Agbonlahor arguing with staff
I honestly hate that the bloke gets paid for his opinion and look at the attention he's getting in the press its horrible ! I had a go at him on twitter about his Villa bias last year and to be fair he responded but he's still full of it, thick and arrogant

Played at the highest level.(under two of the best managers of all time)
Managed at the highest level.(gaining promotion to get there)
Been an assistant manager at international level.(as recently as 4 year ago)
Raises the profile of the club.
Will have any amount of contacts in the game.
Would give the entire city a huge lift.

What's Mccanns credentials?

Before I watched his interview with Gary Neville I would have said he seems happy with his lot, the punditry and having a laugh with others without the responsibilities of management, but not any more.

Seems like he is really up for it.

Neil Warnock has achieved promotion. So has Gary Megson. So has Grant McCann. Even Parko himself.
You seem very very anti Keane ( all about opinions)
However When you bring in Megson and “ Parko “ it seems you are on a wind up to dampen the feel good factor with most posters .Can’t see why any safc would wish to do this even if you have a different opinion -Megson and Parko ??!!

Sorry I'm in a negative mindset at the moment I can't think straight. Not going to post any more on this topic.

Despite a certain section of fans talking the club down. We are a massive club at this level and the stress/panic inside the dressing room towards the 'Fear' of failure, is far greater than most other clubs at this level and it why we've always needed only the strongest of leaders and why we've been in the toilet bowl of history since Allardyce left.

Keane is a force of nature in the game, because he tells the ugly truth and the club is crying out for transparency and honesty. I hope he's learned from his mistakes as we all try to learn from them ourselves. At heart his job is to put 11 players out on the pitch who have no fear of coming off the pitch having not given 100%. The recruitment and coaching he needs good people around him and I think we will the win playoffs.
Nail on the head marra
