The difference between Keane and Johnson would be stark.

Keane would consider every one of the 17 games as must win, there would be bumps along the way but there would be a level of focus not seen at this club for several seasons.

Doubts about how he would fit into the current structure are valid but that wouldn't really be an issue until the summer.

They’d be an issue immediately. Another season in this bastard league because we’ve fucked up yet another appointment, this time to reminisce about something that happened 15 years ago with someone who hasn’t worked in 12 year, would leave me raging.

Not for me like. Great memories of his time here but he's proved he's not a good manager towards the end of his time here and beyond. Theres only so many times you can kick through the tactics board and get a response. Modern footballers just wont give him the same response that the likes of Whitehead, Kavanagh, Miller (RIP) etc would have done.

Maybe he's looked at his mistakes from before and learnt from them though?

To be honest we don't know how he is going to be now but one thing is for certain he won't accept second best.

He would be a solid appointment until the end of the season. The lift he'll give the crowds would be huge.

I'm not bothered that he hasn't managed for years. At this level you just need to be able to motivate and keep the play simple.

He will motivate them

I'm not sure about the "he wouldn't fit the structure at the club" line.

I've heard him say a few times that he loves the job of motivating a team and getting ready for every match. He just doesn't like the wider "manager" stuff like negotiating contracts etc. On that basis, you'd think it would suit him perfectly, as long as he had a loud voice in the room when recruitment decisions are made. It's basically an opportunity for him to take responsibility for managing a group of players, motivating them and preparing for games - with Speakman doing all the stuff Keane hates.
