Roy Keane

I don't necessarily think that Keane is the answer and it would be great if KLD pulled a rabbit out of the hat that gets us all excited. However, I don't quite agree with some of the criticisms on here.

- People say that he couldn't work under a DOF. He's only been in the top position himself twice (us and Ipswich) over five years, working as an assistant (under O'Neill and Paul Lambert) for six. Seemed fine enough with that.
- I'm guessing here, but you'd think that his assistant manager roles would have had more of a coaching focus.
- Yes, he spat his dummy at the end of his time with us, but he has also gone on record regretting that.
- A big part of his demise with us was poor recruitment (discounting that great first window), and - according to Andy Reid - bringing in the likes of Chimbonda because the squad was 'too nice'. The current set-up would hopefully over-rule such knee-jerk mistakes. But he'd have to buy in to that.
- Also worth remembering that he is still only 50, so nowhere near as long in the tooth as Sam or Colin, and with plenty to prove.

Still lots of reasons why he may not be the right man for the job, not least his managerial failures. But the current system might actually get the best out of him. Perhaps the biggest factor could be what the broader coaching team would be. Would that be decided by Speakman or Keane? Or perhaps a bit of both? I could certainly see him being impressed with the set-up and giving it a go as unfinished business.

KLD, look Roy can you accept a smaller wage, its third rate football FFS.

Sign here, your gonna love it.....again.
He wouldn't be coming here for money.

He has said time and time again he'd come back into management.

He surely cannot expect a PL club or half of the C-ship ones to come calling.

Any appointment we make in the coming days is going to massively split opinion. I say throw the dice. It certainly would show balls and that KLD wants us up ASAP. That trumps a long term strategy as far as I'm concerned.

Could be. As could appointing Grayson, Jack Ross, Parkinson and Lee Johnson. Why not appoint someone that we know that we can trust and had actually exceeded expectations at this club.
He hasn't managed in what, about a decade. Don't think he'd fit in with the style the club are supposedly after, and seems strange to jettison any 'vision' we have this early.

Some of our fans are ridiculously obsessed with the past.

Edit: just my opinion of course.

Long term maybe not but imo he would get us promoted and raise the standards of the club again. It’s just a no brainier for me.

I don’t think Keane is the answer, but if this happened you couldn’t not get excited, again.

You could say he has unfinished business on a personal level as a manager, I would hope he has matured and learned from his experiences since his last spell.

Creased imagining Keane being driven into the AoL and Wee Phillie is banging on his window going “who’ve we got in here then?”

Could you imagine Keane :lol::lol:

f***ing bring him herm

Someone remind all journos in the pressers to have their phone switched off anarl!
