Roy Keane

For us? Definitely, IMO. I think he’d take the job in a heartbeat, provided we are prepared to offer a deal that’s attractive enough.
He has unfinished business here that I’m sure he’d like to sort out.

I really don’t know who we should go for, but I’ve got to admit that for better or for worse, I’d be absolutely buzzing if Keano returned. One of the most exciting managerial appointments we’ve ever had. It raised our profile and the football was great. He loved the area and really understood the people and the supporters.

Maybe it wouldn’t work out, who knows. However, it’d be worth it for the ride, IMO. We’re in the third division, exciting managers aren’t going to be applying for the job. Even if it’s just until the end of the season, I’d love to see him back.
Exactly. A no brianer for 6 months.

Ok. Kelly said “according to the Northern Echo, you’re interested in the Sunderland job”. Warnock said:

“No when you look at it……Roy’s gone back into there and somebody asked me the question would I go back into any club between now and the end of the season and I said yes.”

He’s talking about Hodgson I think unfortunately. It’s about 1:07 in.

I'm listening back through now....I've heard nowt about us mentioned so far.

Listen again until you do

You were quite explicitly told not to do this

I suspect Defoe could have got more money and didn’t need us
Keane maybe feels as JD does he has work to do here -you never know
I think you’re right!
The more I think about it, the more I think it would work.
It‘s bizarre when you see the uninspiring names hoyed around that people would turn away a man who’s captained one of the best teams in footballing history and previously managed us, winning promotion to the PL, giving us some of the most memorable times most of us will likely ever see.

I can totally understand people having reservations, but ffs, the idea of Roy Keane managing third division SAFC!
I just can’t see how he could be any worse than the dross we’ve had since we dropped out of the PL.

I think there is zero chance of Keane or Warnock. Both short term answers and we now want to look longer - even if Johnson ultimately was the wrong appointment.

Before Keane's first game in charge last time I got chatting to a smartly dressed Irish bloke at the bar in Fitzgerald's. He asked what I thought of his appointment. I said I was excited and that if he could get someone like Bryan Kidd in alongside him I reckoned he could do very well.

Of course I had totally underestimated Keane. He only brought in the young coach and transformed us almost overnight.

The oldish Irish lad was one of the consortium, I forget which one. But I'm sure he enjoyed Roy's time here as much as the rest of us.

Roll the dice. Let Roy get the bandwagon started again!

How is Keane short term? He got us promoted from the Championship last time!

Unless we’re going overseas, I’m not sure now is a good time for a long term appointment.

A short term appointment gives us options
I think they will have been looking for a while. Why not just choose the man for the next few years? We definitely need someone who favours football that suits the squad.

A short term answer is exactly what we need, IMO. It’s February, Wigan have loads more points to play for, we need someone to come in, sort the mess in the dressing room out, get the lads performing and get us out of this division.
We don’t have the luxury of time, and a short term appointment won’t ruin the long term plan the club’s supposed to have.

Everything now has to be about promotion this season, whatever it takes. Else it’s a fifth season down here.
The longer we’re down here, the less chance we have of attracting good players and managers, and the lower our profile drops.

We need an impact motivator in now who won't have a transfer window but is simply handed the players we have (more than capable of getting up automatically still) and told 'do the job, get us up then we'll talk in the summer but nothing until then'.

A massive lift to everyone with 17 cup finals (or whatever it is left) would be Keane. We need to throw the kitchen sink at this run in and he would provide a massive, massive asset in just being him.

We absolutely aren't getting a long term appointment here. KLD does not want another full season in this league.
