Not sure about all that. He was an exceptionally intelligent footballer, who had a bit of every thing. Nit sire what you mean at all by 'nit a good enough footballer' he may not have some outright emphatic skill or physical attribute, but he absolutely was a good enough 'footballer'.

I disagree slightl myself, premier league strikers don’t score hatfuls, you need lads who can contribute but also play the line striker role. Honestly think pre injury he could play mid table easy

He got 10 goals in 13 games in the Championship for us, for me there was only Gyokores that was his equal in the league, he just wasn't fit for long enough.

If you go back to L1 I think you could compare him to the likes of Ivan Toney, who has gone on to do well in the PL.

As it is though he's had bad injuries so that probably works against him coming back as good as he was at his peak.

The thing about it was - people salivated over Gykores who wasn't even leading the line mostly and had to be used cutting in from the left generally with another forward up there and he missed countless opportunities but his pace and emphatic nature of his play at times was obvious.

Stewart for me and I appreciate injuries cut it short, was better allround. Its absolutely mental how accomplished he looked as a lone striker or even with Simms playing off him having just started playing at this level - I mentioned it early on too when someone said after seeing Gyokeres score a few how Stewart should take notice, that even if he scored 10 goals over a full season the work he done and way he led the line was a different level. It was never just about goals and you would think having seen other 'striker's try to play up front for us since maybe some would appreciate that now.

There's no doubt he could or would have been a decent PL player for me without the injury, he was that good. I wouldn't predict him scoring 15 to 20 a season or owt daft, but he could certainly have held his own at that level.

Not a good enough footballer for teams who can afford to create lots of chances…

It basically means I don’t think he’s a top 6-8 player. Which he’s not.

People forget the quality of finishing you need to be the best striker at even a poor and struggling club.

We needed someone as good as Defoe.

I am a huge fan of Stewart, but he is not as good as finisher as Defoe.

If he stays fit, he'll chip in with a solid amount of goals for Southampton. It's not just his goals neither, he's good at bringing others into play, and rather handy at defending set pieces too.

There's no questioning the lads ability, but that doesn't count for much if you're sat in the treatment room. He'll sharp become the forgotten man if that's the case.

DCL is far better than Ross Stewart bit of a daft question

And don’t believe what you read in the press Everton asking price is apparently more £20m (year left on contract) than £30/40m that the media are reporting

If he is fit net season he will have an impact for them like Quinn did for us. A difficult player for one dimensional premier league teams to play.

He will score goals and be a nuiscance.

Don't necessarily agree with your first sentence, but we all have differing opinions I guess. I agree that Archer is a good player.
Certainly think he was wasted at Sheffield, and (could be wrong) Wilder didn't seem to rate him for some reason.
Would be interesting to see how Archer would be in a decent premier league side where he'd get plenty chances (on goal)
 
I miss him, I this penny pinching can’t last forever, pressure is already on to progress and sign some quality, no more kids from the back streets of Paris.

Seems a weird transfer how he has ended up back at Villa, but it might work out for him if he gets a chance. Otherwise it'll be another loan, maybe even to the Championship.

Aye it was odd.
I THINK it was part of the deal that Villa bought him back if and when Sheff United went down.
Almost a loan (if not officially), maybe something to do with getting him off Villa's pay roll for a year (possibly).

Must admit I'd love him back at Boro.
Can't see it really, having said that it's possible he may end up in the championship after his disappointing stint in the premier last season.
