Not remember the infamous thread?Who didn't appreciate him?!
Think that’s the thing though, most fans aren’t concerned about the fit & well part, we all look at what he can do fit. He most certainly wasn’t fit. Speakman said at the fixture breakfast he’d not get a full preseason, it sounded as if he’d miss the first 2/3 matches & get on the bench. We sold him & his first football match was our reserves in November.Evidently a lot easier said than done though.
Let's be realistic, a fit and well Ross Stewart on proper Championship money would be worth twice what we received for him. Southampton took a big gamble spending what they did on him, but with their parachute payments and player sales in excess of £60m last summer, they could afford to.
The chances of us getting anything like a player of Stewart's quality within then £0-£10m price range were always very very slim.

Never met anyone in my life who didn't think he was quality for us. A few knackers on here don't count. You're saying EVERYONE did?
I do remember that thread now you've linked it. Reckon even Madbob would have accepted that he was quality by the time he left us!
I loved him, but I think we look at it with rose tinted glasses a bit. He played one full season, was top scorer. Leading up to Christmas he was struggling a bit & think it was the penalty at Doncaster gave him a bit of a spurt. He then struggled a bit going into the spring & think it was a couple of goals against Cambridge seemed to give him that push going into the play offs. He played practically every minute & at times seemed to be carrying the weight of that. Think that was one of 3 seasons in his career he’s played more than 25 matches. My favourite player of the L1 years
Not if he scores the winner in the play off final... Jesus did I just inadvertently quote Stewart DonaldI think Southampton paying a quoted £12m will go down on one of those “all time worst transfers” lists
Him and Clarkey are probably my favourite players of the past 10 years, if not longer.
I'm gonna be devastated when Clarkie goes. To be honest, I thought I'd grown out of favourite players 'til that lad showed up. Love him to bits.
Aww there's not a doubt in my mind we did the right thing.Think that’s the thing though, most fans aren’t concerned about the fit & well part, we all look at what he can do fit. He most certainly wasn’t fit. Speakman said at the fixture breakfast he’d not get a full preseason, it sounded as if he’d miss the first 2/3 matches & get on the bench. Add that to the bit that he was open to moving, how much was he actually committed to us once his agent turned down whatever contract offer it was.
There’s certain points above we’ll never know, but you’ve got to assume to club took a view on it.
If fans opinions ran the club, he’d still be here now on a massive wage & we’d all still be shouting to spend shit loads of money on a new striker.
Aye I agree mate. I think we were lucky to get rid of him when we did for that much. Reckon his career is going to be stop/start now for the foreseeable.
One other thing I’ll mention while I seem to be a Kristjaan Speakman fanboyWe’re all quick to jump on the absolutely shite things we’ve done, especially in the past six months, but let’s give ctedit where it’s due, it ended up being a very good call.
You can argue he should’ve had a contract signed before that Fulham game, but even as a severely injured player, the mantra on here was “give him what he wants”. We’d have been stuck with probably the highest paid player on the books, not kicking a ball & not playing for two years. Our stance will definitely have changed once that injury happened.
Not signing a replacement was the worst decision
You’ve gone with two different spellings here. I reckon it’s the first one myself.
I go with Jacky and have a similar problem. I also sound like captain jack sparrows dad when I shout it matchdaysI have haven't I. I don't think I've ever made me mind up.
Aye. Mowbray talked in the same talk in about the job was to find Stewart no.2 from another Ross County if he went. He did go & se didn’t find anywhere near that player.Aww there's not a doubt in my mind we did the right thing.
I'm just replacing a player of that quality with the amount of money we had was nigh on impossible. We had to try something else, and it didn't come off.
I honestly think he's done.
Definitely a Scotland player anyway. This tournament would have been his best shot at international fitbaTwo serious injuries in a row might see him return a shadow of what he was.
Which is a massive shame as there was potentially a premier league player there.
