Ross Stewart

Hopefully he’s the prototype not the exception 🤞
If we don't go up this season, I expect we will find out in the summer. I hear that there's PL scouts watching Neil most weeks and there's obviously going to be interest in Clarke. Jobe, Ekwah and Hume and possibly others all with suitors too, IF the media are given any credence. A challenge for the club and Speakman replacing any of those with players as good or better but at least money shouldn't be an excuse.

If we were to be promoted I'd expect/hope that those mentioned would stay.

Really feel for the lad, top player. Apparently it was 8m upfront though, with 2m adds on for appearances etc. So we're probably not going to see that.

If there's one thing the club did correctly it was sell Stewart when they did.

As was pointed out during the period he was injured, there's no point in signing any old striker as many wanted and argued for. We have signed four and they are yet to score.

Wigan had 8 and still got relegated.

We’ve got our money, he’s got his. Southampton are the biggest losers in this deal. I suspect he’ll probably get released at the end of his contract. They only gave him a 3 year deal which shows to me anyway, they didn’t have much faith in his health.

….. and if he’d stayed with us, assuming we matched the salary RS is on at Southampton ( circa £25k a week for 3 years ) and given the lad has an ongoing chronic injury issue which meant playing less than 20 minutes since August and unlikely to play again this season, no doubt you’d be happy he stayed ?

Nah, you’d be bleating that we should have sold him for £10M.

RS was up their as one of the best strikers we’ve had in recent years. He always did his best and should be thanked for that.

He had the chance to secure long term financial security for his family and took it. What’s wrong with that, you would do exactly the same in his situation.
Exactly people would be complaining that we gave him a contract

not sure if we are going to buy a striker in January. but we certainly wouldn't be in a position to sign a replacement now had we given him the same wage. Imagine we broke "the model" for him and he never kicked a ball again.

He needs to be in a team like he was at sunderland where there was absolutely no pressure on him to play for the first 6 months while he got over his injuries then when Wyke left he slotted into his place. Never thought I'd say it about sunderlands medical staff but they performed a miracle keeping him fit for a full season.

He'd rather play for a lesser club for more money than the club that stood by him through his injury.
Not sure why you think this is some how noble.

Disappointing, and tainted an already injury ravished stay on Wearside.

Is it reasonable to expect we could get an average of 20 mill for those 5. I think so, if Chelsea are interested in any we probs get 100 mill for 1

100 Mill would be a decent amount to build squad capable of winning the league. I don't think we would let all 5 of those go though. Basically starting again.

You’d think he was Quinny here at times 😂. One day we’ll say “remember when we had players like Ross Stewart” and not in a nice way.

We move on. Moved at the first sign of the dollar dollar. But that’s football.

It wasn't. It was £8m up front, £2m guaranteed in installments, and then £2m add ons if Southampton are promoted within the length of his contract.

It's quite likely we'll get the full £12m even if he never starts a game for them.

Good luck to him.
People need to get real. He did well for us and took the opportunity to secure his future. Which I'm pretty sure most of us would do the same.
These conversations wouldn't be happening if we had bought a goal scorer to replace him.

I suppose it just demonstrates how short a players career can be, and I get why he moved to secure his family financially.
Wish him well. The moment when his goal hit the net at Wembley will stay with me.

Was amazed they signed him given he was going to be out til October at the earliest. They could have held off, waited for him to prove (or not prove as it turned out) his fitness then got him for half the price in January.

Wish him well, no ill feelings towards him. What a deal that turned out to be for us though.
