Did the bid come in 10 mins before the end of the window?

Of course not - the club knew about this weeks before and that’s what we used to pay for aouchiche, Rusyn and Pembele on deadline day. Problem is early signs are the 4 strikers we did sign just aren’t good enough
You may well be right, or maybe we didn’t think he’d pass a medical and didn’t count on the money until the deal was done?

Mental attitude for someone that got us promoted and always gave 100%

You can't blame the lad for wanting at least one big contract in a career which now looks like it will be cut short
stood by him through his injuries, nursed him back to health, paying him in the process. Nears fitness, and then diddles off to Southampton of all places ffs.

It's widely known they were offering more coin. It's also now obvious he hasn't neared fitness as he is out for the season. You must be on a wind up surely nobody is this daft.

Given he was never going to sign another deal at safc, bad injuries back-to-back and only 10 months until out of contract. I think the £10M fee is outstanding irrespective of what's happened to him since August. Should give us some comfort that when other cherished players leave whilst in contract then the maximum return will be sought.

Hopefully he’s the prototype not the exception 🤞

How the fuck did he pass a medical, his knee looked like a council estate mother who smoked 60 a day and drank white lightening cider

It's a new injury from play gor them. So, aye, he obviously was nearing fitness.

Wishing him well for diddling off for the money. Give over, you're surely taking the piss?!

Don't get why people are laughing.

Feel for him but at least he's got 20k a week. He wouldn't be getting that here.

People were raging the club took the money but 10 Mill for him was superb business just hope not much if any of it is tied up in appearance related clauses.

….. and if he’d stayed with us, assuming we matched the salary RS is on at Southampton ( circa £25k a week for 3 years ) and given the lad has an ongoing chronic injury issue which meant playing less than 20 minutes since August and unlikely to play again this season, no doubt you’d be happy he stayed ?

Nah, you’d be bleating that we should have sold him for £10M.

RS was up their as one of the best strikers we’ve had in recent years. He always did his best and should be thanked for that.

He had the chance to secure long term financial security for his family and took it. What’s wrong with that, you would do exactly the same in his situation.

I’d be surprised if he plays more than another 30 senior games.

The Scottish Dean Ashton.

£10m for him? Cheers.

🤣 might be accurate. Remember seeing Ashton play for Crewe at Luton when I went with a work mate. Was honestly blown away at how good he looked and thought he was going to be the next shearer. Thought West Ham had played a blinder signing him then injuries just fucked him..

Amazing we got 10m for a striker who played one full season for us.
