Roker Park...WOWEE!

The way it works, council propose improvements and ask for tenders. Tenders put bids in with itemised costs all broken down. Council scutinise tendered bids and award to best value for money one. Council announce improvements in press release and submit to funding body (which will run it over with a fine tooth comb). Navel gazers then question/are ignorant of the legitimacy of the bidding/tendering process and think council came up with the figures themselves on the back of a fag packet (this suits there agenda). Other navel gazers call it a waste of money and that it should be spent on summat else (without saying what). Both of these sets of navel gazers were the ones that were slating the council last week "for deeing nowt" to improve the city.

I'm aware of that, thanks though.
Does it make me a navel gazer to request that the costings, broken down, are included in the press release. For us all to see. Nowt to hide is there?

I don't think anyone thinks it's done on a fag packet, your just being facetious.

Transparency is all that I'm requesting. Don't really understand why you would feel the need to sweepingly insult anyone who makes a simple query.

I have worked with many councils, as a supplier, although admittedly never Sunderland. And most don't even follow the 3 quote rule of thumb used in most industry.

I'm glad they are improving Roker Park, I love the place to start with. I'd like more than a picture of a shed and an end project figure.

If they have followed up on several quotes, shopped around, established the best , most value for money supplier, publish the detailed cost breakdown. It's public money.

But of course, local and national government projects always finish on time and on budget.

So, to be honest it's quite the opposite isn't it, you stare at your navel trusting all is well with the world. Some of us want actual accountable, specific details.

If anyone can please inform me how transparency and further detail than an overall cost could in anyway be a negative I'll be more than interested to read that post. The rest is just shite tbh.

Your grasping at straws man. When has cost ever been broken down on a press release? Ask for it via FoI request. Self-funding council spending is scrutinised and audited to death by the NAO. External funding is scrutinised and audited to death by the awarding bodies. I used to work on them until fairly recently. You think you can just knock on the door and ask for £4.5m, no questions asked?

I love a good press release with a breakdown of costs...I think we can all agree that they make for the most compelling reading.

A surefire way to increase newspaper sales

You want to know the cost of everything but fail to consider the quality.

This ^^^

He claims to live in durham but wants to know how Sunderland council are spending their money....how bizarre!

They are extending the lodge. restoring the bridges, footpaths, green areas, pond, secret garden, railings, bandstand, statues, drinking fountain, toilets, bunkers, fairy dell amongst other things including gates to allow traders to enter from side cliff road.

I haven't failed to consider anything. What a bizarre, untrue and couldn't possibly be known type of thing to say.

@feynman won't be back now that I have reminded him that he claimed to live in Durham

Haha why? I do live in Durham. I lived in Sunderland for years most of my family still do. I probably weekly visit Roker and Seaburn etc. I'm allowed to be interested in it your worship.

Ps the things listed in your other post look like mostly on going maintenance to me. It's a lot of money for a generic spruce up. IMO like.

And he thinks it should be done for three pund fifty anarl.

Anyway I bored of it now.

For any local and national government projects over say a million I think detailed costings should be published.

End of another Boris, Wilfy, Barny and that other lad typical thread.

I'll move back once it's sorted thanks :)

Could be 10 mill for me marra. As long as I could see added value.

Just think of the size of the grey concrete cube that could be built for 10 mill! Well done SC and it's merry band of Morris dancers!

I look at it from a business point of view. We're competing for money from a fund and we have to put a good case together to get that £4.5m. That £4.5 m and the flow down effects is better in Sunderland than some other town in the UK. Hats off to the people who are going for it. I've been there and done it and it's f***ing hard work.
