I think it’s a shit appointment
- decent first class player, never made the step up
- retired and became a reasonable commentator (if prone to “banter”)
- no experience at all in cricket governance
What qualifies him exactly?

I know. And it can happen, but generally you need some experience going into a senior job. It’s why HSBC don’t employ a bloke off the street as their CEO

The very very last thing I want is a Ashley Giles or Alex Stewart situation, who are good blokes but the most typical ECB men in history and would absolutely appoint coaches like silverwood and pick their captains based on how nice a bloke they were
