Or how Key is a bit fatAt least we won't have to listen to endless jokes about Nasser's nose on Sky I suppose
I think it’s a shit appointment
- decent first class player, never made the step up
- retired and became a reasonable commentator (if prone to “banter”)
- no experience at all in cricket governance
What qualifies him exactly?
Or how Key is a bit fat
Giles at least had some experience, he was useless mindHe’s a much much better appointment that Giles who is supposedly qualified for this position
I like it
People just moan at everything on here
This is such a weird tick for you, it’s completely in your head

Ticks boxes or has experience? Hello Goldman Sachs, I’d like a job please. No, I don’t have any experience for the role, but you don’t need to tick those boxes surely? It is like
That doesn’t happen either
That’s my point
Why appoint someone who just ticks boxes
Key has good ideas on test cricket k think it’s a good appointment
There’s not one person who could be appointed that people on here wouldn’t moan about
Good on him for not taking the easy option and put himself out there too
What experience did Roy Keane have when he got the Sunderland jobTicks boxes or has experience? Hello Goldman Sachs, I’d like a job please. No, I don’t have any experience for the role, but you don’t need to tick those boxes surely?
I’m not sure taking charge of a second tier club as manger/coach is analogous with taking a managing director role of a national sideWhat experience did Roy Keane have when he got the Sunderland job
I just mean like people learn on the job sort of thingI’m not sure taking charge of a second tier club as manger/coach is analogous with taking a managing director role of a national side
I know. And it can happen, but generally you need some experience going into a senior job. It’s why HSBC don’t employ a bloke off the street as their CEOI just mean like people learn on the job sort of thing

Being a director of a county is good experience for a director of a national team. They’re directly linkedExpericnd of what?
Being a director of cricket at county cricket has no relevance at all
If you really think people like Ashley Giles are more qualified than I give up and I’ll leave it there
No surprise you haven’t made literally 1 suggestion
I like him and though he doesn't seem to have the qualifications or experience, the correlation between how qualified you are for the role and how successful you are in the role isn't the same in sport as in the "real world". So I'm happy enough to give this a chance.
Being a director of a county is good experience for a director of a national team. They’re directly linked
Course it is.Agreed
What do people mean by experience though?
Experience in what?
It’s such a niche role
People don’t seem to want him because they don’t like his jokes on sky
The very very last thing I want is a Ashley Giles or Alex Stewart situation, who are good blokes but the most typical ECB men in history and would absolutely appoint coaches like silverwood and pick their captains based on how nice a bloke they were
No it’s not at all
Course it is.
