RLODC - Durham 2022

Definitely agree with this. I know there has been some disquiet on here about playing home games out of the county, but I don’t think the arrangements for this game could be faulted.

Plus it would be a good advert for the club if the team played like we know they should/can.

Years back I was one of those people "why should we play outside the county" but have to be honest I've enjoyed my visits to South North, I think it's 5 visits now. The wife and nephew have been the last couple of times and have both enjoyed it.

The ground itself is absolutely immaculate mind. Fair few of us have commented on the state of our ground and the wickets this year and for that reason I'd be open to a 4 day game at South North to be honest I think they would be able to manage that fine, whether members/the clubs would agree I think it would be something worth exploring. The year covid hit, we were due to play at Darlington, so again not sure how viable that would be now. It's a nice change.
Due to work commitments didn't get to the ground till around 12.30. Therefore got to see the "best" of the batting with Trevaskis and Macintosh batting together. They batted quite well but the damage had already been done. Obviously once both of them were gone there was nothing else much to follow. The bowling was mediocre and the fielding absolute dog shit. There were 5 catches dropped altogether, although the 2 dropped by Trevaskis were quite difficult. The only way to even make a game of this was by taking early wickets and preventing the flow of runs but the abysmal fielding put paid to that and Surrey we're allowed to cruise along trouble-free to victory. I was viewing from the area around the groudsmans hut behind the bowlers arm. Once the third catch went down the crowd around where I was became a bit restless and catcalls were being made such as "Are you lot having a laugh" and "Do you not practice fielding". Not something I really support but hardly surprising given what was happening out on the field. My highlight of the day was seeing, from where I was standing, Rushy bowling a slower ball to take his wicket, possibly out the back of his hand. Maybe we're catching onto this white ball bowling business. When the last few runs were required I began making my way to the exit. What was surprising to me was that most people were just staying put and enjoying the rest of the afternoon in the sun and weren't allowing DCCC's performance on the pitch to spoil it. Anyway I will still be turning up for Sunday. Had pencilled in an away day at Grantham for the Notts game but going off the idea now.

It's bad enough watching poor performances on the pitch but that's made 10 times worse by the complete lack of communication from the club. Communication has always been, at best, mediocre now it is completely abysmal or simply non existent. As a bare minimum I would expect a squad to be announced a at least 3 days before a game. The final proposed XI to be announced the day before the fixture but however this will obviously be subject to injuries etc. Also comments made for the dropping and selecting of individual players. For instance this season in the T20 campaign Liam Trevaskis was made captain. That was fair enough by me but there was no mention as to why he was specifically made captain as opposed to anyone else. Even worse a few seasons back Stuart Poynter was made T20 captain despite it seeming unlikely that he would be a 1st XI team member before the season even started. Unsurprisingly he was dropped before the competition finished as there was no justification for selecting him, based on form, in the first place. Injury updates made on an individual basis as and when information becomes available. Not the scenario that exists now whereby players go missing for days or even months and then, eventually, a mass injury update is released on their progress.

It's now got to the stage where rumours are spreading like wildfire throughout the membership and supporters as to what is actually going on behind the scenes and patience has now worn very thin. However the club still remains silent on cricketing updates. It wouldn't surprise me if Ben Stokes plays on Sunday, which would encourage a few more to attend, but the Club only announced it 20 minutes before the game starts.

We were talking on the way home and think this game yesterday may well be the turning point for some in terms of criticisms towards the club who have maybe stayed quiet/sat on the fence and I got that feeling yesterday. A fair few in total shock and disbelief at how bad it was yesterday and these people are usually mild mannered people who have watched the club for years.

Ironically a couple of people I don't even know collared me yesterday saying some of my recent comments have been justified given the lack of comms/performances, still none the wiser who those people were  . I just speak as I see it really, happy to praise when needs me and happy to criticise constructively when needs be. I think that is healthy to do. What isn't healthy is for the lack of comms from the club, again 10.30-10.35am until we knew the team yesterday is completely unacceptable.

Rumours (some more than rumours) are absolutely rife around the ground on a matchday under this regime and again they were yesterday from some credible people, this is what happens when the club are silent on just about everything. The whole club needs a whole re-think with regards to their communication. The communication always seems to be reactive after criticism when it should be pro active. The club media haven't officially announced Franklin is away with the 100.

Weather pending we're going down to Grantham as I've never been.

The timing of this announcement was interesting. I hope it’s just a coincidence that it was made just after everyone had got into the ground and taken their seats. Most of this information must have been known at least a week ago. The cynical amongst us might conclude that they held onto this news until they were sure of a good crowd.

Given what Marty said I don’t think it’s interesting at all.

The announcement came after the team for the Surrey game had been given to the umpires and opposition captain. Which backs up the story that the reason they didn’t announce it sooner was because of late injuries and probably included a little bit of gamesmanship (for want of a better phrase) to keep the opposition guessing.

Happens all the time in sport, granted it’s quite rare in cricket and probably bad etiquette but as someone who follows A LOT of sport and makes a lot of money from the gambling trade it is very common in the world of sport.

The actual playing 11 can’t be announced until after the toss for anti-corruption reasons - no side announced there team until 10:30 ish after the the toss. The squad a day or so before I agree with.

Yeah I should make myself a bit clearer but it's the squad news I refer to and I think others are also, fully understand team news cannot be announced until nearer the time of the game.

Injuries or not (I don't think we had any last minute injuries as Bushnell didn't play for Hartlepool at weekend yet Crawshaw did and it was common knowledge the rest were injured), we still should announce a squad at least a day before a game, I don't think that's unreasonable. If changes are made then so be and we have seen that in recent games with Potts coming in last minute for example and Salisbury playing when not announced in the original squad for a red ball game recently.

It needs to improve, it's basic stuff this

The information was clearly leaked by folk within the club/closely associated within the club, he won't have found it out speaking to Jenny on the till in Morrisons in Seaburn. That's his job to get the information and he's done that well. There is clearly a policy within the club about sharing certain information and when to host it and someone alluded to it earlier saying nobody at the club would authorise the publishing of the team news today which was only published 25 minutes before the start of the game.... It doesn't look good for the club when others find it out first and host it themselves before the club do. I remember a website told us 2-3 months before he signed that Maddinson was joining us, likewise an external site and Marty hosted about Ravindra signing. Plenty more the club could be telling members as well with regards to contracts but hopefully it all comes out soon enough. Been leaks for years. Someone on here posted about Jack Campbell 2 months before the club announced it. I posted about Burnham a year ago for example. Someone today (I've heard the same thing since) posted about a player who has been released. Communication is a wonderful thing, the club haven't done it well for years. Who is to blame for that is open to debate. One thing that shouldn't be up for debate is how poorly the club communicate which has been the case for many years.
There's no point in debating this with you as you clearly weirdly believe that someone in the club is "leaking" things like injuries and team selections to a local journalist who's job is to cover the club. What on earth would he be doing if he wasn't talking to people in the club to find out what is going on and then reporting on what he's found?

I get the club is having a shocking season but you're just looking for things to have a go about.

Even Marty himself thinks you're a fool on this one mate.....

Genuinely not arsed he's entitled to his opinion and could have said something yesterday if it was bothering him that much. I actually praised him for keeping fans up to date, he's good at what he does unlike the club with their communication

If the information isn't leaked and he's told it by the club in good faith, it shows the club hold members in contempt with the lack of communication which more than just myself continue to mention and have mentioned for years which for some reason you conveniently ignore. Plenty on here will back me as they're saying the exact same things on here as I am and strangers at the ground were even stopping me yesterday about it in favour of what I've recently said and likewise after the members forum last week.

It's all round very poor.

Poor communication and things being "leaked" are two different things. I'm not arguing against the poor communication. I'm saying that just because a journalist who's job it is to cover the club gets told information before it's released to the general public doesn't mean someone inside the club is "leaking" things.

I've never suggested otherwise. As I've said I praised and thanked Martin for his information as we don't get to hear much officially from the club. If the information was given to him in good faith from the club, then why aren't the club releasing the information to members/fans first? He will never admit the information is leaked for obvious reasons, as is the case with all things (was rife yesterday round the ground). He's doing a good job this season and feel his reporting is more of truer/fair reflection of events. It's a shame he knew nothing about the members forum last week as I feel he could have added a lot of value to the questions which were asked. All very bizarre as I was stood right in front of him yesterday when he was talking to a friend before the game and he said nothing and he knows who I am. He is way off the mark if he feels I'm criticising him though but he's entitled to his opinion.
