Both good defensively but Omar is prone to a loose pass. Ballard’s passing is much better than he’s given credit for and alongside Stones you’d have two CB’s comfortable bringing the ball out.
 

Already have quality young players, hopefully ready made to come in. Probably need to replace cirkin, isidor and traore too
 
We need to decide if we are camping on the edge of our box and defending with quick counters or passing it slowly out from the back with a press.
Currently sitting deep with no pace in attack is a bit silly.
We started this season with a defined way of playing that’s slowly became a bit of a mess recently. Very vertical as they now say. But at the minute it’s pass it around at the back until we make a mistake while we try and slowly advance.

Harrison Jones is still getting on the bench and we're releasing him at the end of the season asking with Dan Neil so you really think we have to reinforce this area. Obviously we've got diarra and rigg and le fee who seem to play wide mostly which would reinforce the centre.
 
A pacey CB/LB (like Alese with working legs) or LWB. Possibly both, unless Geertruida signs or Cirkin renews

Then need to replace any other sales or departures.

3. A LB.

4. A young up and coming CB

5. A striker

6. A quality No.10


If we can also keep most of our current squad, those additions should push us on nicely.

Nearly all clubs will add 2 to 3, 1st teamers and we still have a lot of catchup to do to compete let alone progress. We need to add real quality not squad depth.

I think the wider quote says 2,3,4 to help the first 11 and also improve the core 16.
My interpretation of that is 4 first team starters plus some players that are on the edges of first team. I reckon there’ll be six major signings and 2/3 squad type signings.
There are lots of likely departures.
 
Probably a striker with different attributes to Brobbey

A left footed right winger

Somebody in the LCB space (CB/LB)

A disciplined midfielder to support/compete with Xhaka and Sadiki

We can’t just keep signing winger after winger we need a left back a left centre back and a holding midfielder
 
If they're talking about a core of 16 first team players then that'll consist of 1 keeper, 3 fullbacks, 3 centre backs, 5 midfielders and 4 forwards.

In terms of our current squad we have Roefs (keeper), Mukiele, Reinildo, Hume (fullbacks), Ballard, Alderete (centre backs), Xhaka, Sadiki, Diarra, Le Fee (midfielders) and Brobbey, Angulo (forwards). 12 in place so first team signings would be 1 centre back, 1 centre midfield and 2 forwards.

With the rest of the 25 man squad being Ellborg, Moore, O'Nien, Seelt, Cirkin(if he stays?), Rigg, Talbi, Jocelin, Mayenda. Noting they don't all need to be registered in the 25 but I think would be considered as such. Maybe Seelt and Cirkin will move on and we'll sign two young defenders as well.

Patterson, Pembele, Huggins, Hjelde, Alese, Masuaku, Neil, Browne, H Jones, Ba, Aleksic, Mundle, Traore, Adingra, Isidor, Rusyn and Abdullahi will either not have contracts extended or be farmed out in some fashion.

Spending say another c£150m on a centre half, a centre midfielder and 2 forwards (a striker and someone who plays from the right) feels like you could add some real quality to the existing core of 12 players. Especially if one of them is a free transfer.

So when all fit the first XI looks like Roefs, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinidlo, Xhaka, Sadicki, Le Fee, Angulo, £60m right wing and £60m striker.
With a bench of Ellborg, Hume, free agent centre half, O'Nien, £30m midfielder, Rigg, Talbi, Jocelin and Brobbey.

Basically this season's team with £120m injected into the front 3 and more depth on the bench. Can we hold on to all of our current first team? Can we attract £60m forwards? If we do I can see some real progression. Exciting times.

There's zero chance we're spending £60m on an individual winger and/or forward mind. Zero.
