Redditors gave Wall Street traders an absolute pasting

Investment banks don't give money to hedge funds. That would be a conflict of interest.

This might get a little tedious and I’ll therefore try to keep it simple.

They do.

I had a chat with a client last Autumn looking at using a fund of funds with UBS (Investment bank) investing into hedge funds. It’s pretty clear to me that you are tossing out jargon without any clue what you’re on about.

You also mentioned £10bn exposure of councils to hedge funds, I’d like to see what the context is (assuming it’s not made up by someone at the other end of this message) Is this one Council investing a huge chunk of budget into a hedge fund or total exposure amongst all UK councils which as a % of holdings will be minimal. The firm I work for have £7bn under management and we are considered a fairly small outfit!

Finally, you’re quoting back to me what an alternative is...... I know, that’s why I mentioned it in the post. I could train a parrot to throw out the buzzwords, but I couldn’t train it to write the reports.

I've bought into AMC just because I feel left out reading about all this and not having anything  GME is the one like but I wanted more than a handful of shares so AMC it is

my crypto is doing very well at the minute so I'm not to fussed if this comes to nothing. I can afford to lose what I've put in

The clue is in the word. Fund of funds.

A fund. That invests. In other funds.

An investment bank. That invests. In multiple hedge funds.

I don’t know anything about how to tile a roof hence you’ll never see me on those threads arguing the merits of lead flashings.
Nope. That will have been the asset management arm of the bank. You know gsam, jpim, ubam. Not the investment bank. I'd assume you'd have known that?

As far as I’m aware UBS have one share price, regardless of which side of the bank the money invested comes from.

It’s starting to feel like I’m having a conversation with a side of gammon and I’m conscious that this isn’t doing anyone any good

Oink. Check the Volcker rule. Investment banks cannot invest in hedge funds. They can seed them and be 3% max for a year and apply for an extension of needed but its a stone cold fact us investment banks cannot invest in hedge funds.

Havent read the whole thread but is it not the case the banks have Chinese walls in place so for example the asset management arm, or private equity arm, or whatever, is a separate part of the business to the actual bank.

Im not overly familiar with Dodd Frank, of which i believe Volker is part, but is Monkeytassle not just saying that?
