Maybe these apparent 'assurances' he is looking for is that most of the squad will leave and he wont be lumbered with them?

Which doesn't make sense when the OP says the assurances are that the majority of the first team will stay...

Tbh, they'd be better off with Pearson in the Championship, so not fussed if Rafa stays.

It would be funny if he left, mind.... ☺

Rafa is holding out for assurances before committing to a long term deal, but looks set to put pen to paper.

Ashley keen to keep him on, the plan is to try and hold onto as many first team players as possible and get promoted at the first time of asking.

High risk strategy from Mike?

And this is why if they do not get promoted it's bust & League One beckoning....Dangerous game....

Benitez may well be the wonder coach we are all told he is. But it was him who set up a team - in a must win game against one of the worst teams ever to play top flight football- and played from the start as if he were defending a 1-0 lead against Real Madrid. Away.

There will be more of this to come. He is actually a really good, thorough coach but caution has always been his main starting point. Nowt wrong with that either, I approve mesell, but it if he doesn't set a scorching pace next season they won't be long in getting the sheets out.

I think if he stays he'll walk that league with them, it's a "tough" league in that it's a lot of games and people kick you about a bit but he'll more than likely be allowed to keep their better players and spend on new ones. If he doesn't get them up first time then he's truly finished at the top level of the game.

I hope he bottles it and takes the Spain/Valencia job.
