We do our business upfront, we wont be paying any fees for those players still. It was one of the few positive changes Ashley made. He also demanded money upfront in one whack - made the news with the sale of Carroll at 35m upfront.

Also why the Sissoko deal was so unusual as its not how he normally operates.

Debts still there though. You spent at least 100m last year and your turnover will be nowhere near that.

You simply dont have as much as you think you have. Ashley will not spend into debt and would appear hes being critcised for it. If it all goes wrong youd be near 200m in debt. Would you rather he played it safe or gambled?

He wants a well ran midtable club. You will only ever spend what NUFC earn not Ashley. You dont earn that much hence a small spend this summer

Aye, not so good at running a football club imo. Good at finances, but that reduces any ambition.
I can see it from his point of view though. Why spend £100m to finish 8th when £40m could get you 15th,and the difference in prize money is only £16m?

Exactly. He has all the advertising space in SJP for his companies, USC, SD, or brands he owns like Black and Decker, Firetrap, etc. It's worth £8m a year apparently. Coincidentally the interest on his interest free loan to the club would be £8m a year. The debt is not gettinf reduced on purpose, therefore the interest stays at the cost of the advertising space. Plus it puts off any potential purchaser of the club because they then take on the £130m debt. Nearly doubles the price. It strengthens his grip on the club. All the while, his companies are getting advertising exposure in 200 countries every fortnight. He's a very clever bloke.
This is why only existing in the PL making up the numbers is enough for him. It leads to a dull existence when you know you have potential to do better but end up on a par with Swansea or Bournemouth or West Brom or Watford.

I said at the time it would get them up but the quality wasn't there to push on to top half of Prem so, when they got up, they would have to buy a new team again if they really wanted to push on.

Last time they came up having kept the Prem sqaud together. This time their best assets were sold and a new Champo sqaud bought. It did the job (much like Keane's did) but now they have to make the difficult decision of how much to invest to make sure they stay up with no drama and whether it's worth the extra £££ needed to push on to top half...

Still three weeks to go so we will see. I'm not expecting much. Seems to take a month to do a deal at nufc

Consensus on Tyneside is that Ashley prefers to pay up front, so unless you've a source that says otherwise I don't think we are paying the balance on those players.
