Rafa. He's still not happy

Nah, can't see us finishing twelfth without strengthening up front and getting cover for Shelvey and I can't see us doing that in this window, with the market the way it is. That said, apparently Lucas Perez is available for £13m and I can only assume he's not interested in the move as we should be moving heaven and earth to get that kind of deal done. £13m isn't excessive, he's looked quality and so on. But then, we're a newly promoted side and he'll likely have better offers.

I'd be content with staying up even if we finish 17th to be honest. Obviously I want higher and the table could be as close as last year with 6pts separating 8th and 17th. I reckon 42 points, that could have us 14th, or it could see us down again... who knows?
Is he actually any good? Apart from an impressive 2015/16 season at Depor hes been a nothing player all his career almost 29 and only 53 league career goals. Arsenal only made a move for him when it looked like he was off to Everton who are now looking for a striker but aren't interested at all in Perez 1yr on

Too many people enjoy trying to twist meaning, unfortunately that means to get a pretty straightforward point across I have to couch it in terms that reduce the likelihood of that. e.g. "aren't currently a truly big club" is still met with "eeee lookit the delewded jawdee, he thinks theyuh gonna be a massive club" and so on. Boring for everyone, I'm sure, but perhaps if people didn't play fast and loose with sentiment it wouldn't be necessary.
Why say things if you don't mean them? Maybe if you cut your irrelevant dribble out of your posts, spoke in a way people actually understood what the fuck you were babbling on about then you wouldn't get half the shit.

You can't, you simply have to type a novel when a simple few words would suffice. You actually make some pretty good points and then revert to arsehole mode and piss people off by playing a smart arse.

Only my opinion obviously.

He's decent, the Arsenal fans are frustrated he didn't get more opportunities under Wenger and most importantly, he's better than what we've got and is available for c£13m which in todays market doesn't get you a lot.

Rumours were that Swansea were happy to commit to playing Abraham a set number of games and were happy with the agreed fee, and we weren't. No surprise that Charnley and Ashley's "abrasive" lawyer friend Barnes couldn't properly negotiate a deal what a player that looks on paper ideal for our situation.

I really don't think location is as big a problem as it's made out on here. We're a few hours from London by train, ditto by plane. Not significantly more than Manchester or Liverpool.

And Newcastle city centre has enough shops, bars and Nandos to keep a Premier League player happy.

I think the biggest problem we face is that our isolation isn't offset by the wages Ashley is prepared to pay, or our competitiveness in the competitions. If we were challenging for the title and paying the going rate (I know I know) I don't think we'd have a problem attracting top players and if Ashley was happy to pay a "Geetfaraway bonus" we'd not have a problem either. We can attract a decent standard of player as it stands and should we survive, I'd expect us to use that more secure starting point to attract better still.
Don't think you can brush off the location issue,it's definitely an issue,it shouldn't be,but foreign footballers have an eye on London, decent ones anyway, what do you think of Andre Gray going for a reported 18 million ? Would you rather have Gayle or should you have been after him, to beef up you're attack, you would've thought he might have been interested in a club like yours, given Burnley could easily drop this season ?

Like I said, I do try to be brief, but whenever there's an inch of wiggle room, some absolute BANTERLAD will try and twist what I've said.

You do exactly that, yourself, at the slightest opportunity.

It's a forum where there is nothing but words and everyone is responsible for what they say.

Everyone is picked up on what they say, it would be a little childish to believe you're treated any differently ....... fellow Sunderland supporters rip each other for the slightest anomaly.

Threads are bumped from years ago and people reminded of what they've said.

Don't be so paranoid ........

Without knowing the ins and outs of the deal I can't say why he's chosen to join Burnley.

I mean, they're a Premier League club with a respected manager and so on and so forth. He'll likely be first choice. But like you say, Burnley may well be in danger this season. They've survived on team spirit, grit and surprising home form. He's taking a risk joining them, but imo he's swapping one team in danger, for another.

I don't know if we made a serious bid, I doubt it, but if we did I don't know what terms we offered, what assurances we made about playing time. He certainly wouldn't be a guaranteed starter, (he's got as many goals in the top flight as Mitrovic FFS) and while he performed well in the Championship he might be a Jordan Rhodes.

I think there's better out there than Gray, and I think he's not sufficiently better than what we've got to spend nigh on £20m on him. He's 26 and I wouldn't fancy relying on him to fire enough goals to keep us up. Abraham on loan with an option to buy later would have been the best deal imo.

Anomaly? Isn't that a rather big word for a failed doorman?

Do I? I don't think I do and if I do, I don't do it deliberately and once it's clarified I'm sure I'd apologise.

Don't doubt others do it to each other, but because I'm a Newcastle fan on a Sunderland message board, there's more hay to be made from twisting my meaning.

How man, I was a great success as a doorman ....... just a massive failure at everything else

There are many many Sunderland supporters who receive a much rougher ride than you ..... and, yes, you do it regularly.

One thing the Gray deal shows though, you're going to have to spend serious money to get a half decent striker in the premier league,it's going to be tough for you're lot to make any impression in the transfer market this season, especially in attacking areas, unless Mr Sports Direct has a change of heart.

Manchester & Liverpool have a huge recent history with League titles, FA Cup wins, CL trophies etc ...... Newcastle don't come close to comparing with that.
