It really isn’t. The N word is short for negro, a word that means ‘black’. Used in a negative context.

Saying that a black person is like a monkey is significantly more offensive, imho.

Ultimately however, my opinion on it means fuck all, as a white man, and neither does yours. We shouldn’t be saying one phrases is ‘worse’ than another.

If people want unrestricted free speech that's fine provided they're prepared to accept the consequences.

If they're prepared to repeat the bigotry, they spout on here, to people in real life that's fair enough.

But I suspect they're snide little cowards who can only act the big man from behind a keyboard.

I'd repeat anything I say on here to someone's face, I'm sure some of the openly racist posters never would.

I also suspect they're moderating their actual views in order to avoid a ban, also cowardly.

The funniest part is that you're not even willing to own this. 'it's just the word banana' is a nice and disingenuous way of pretending that what someone is saying shouldn't be considered offensive, because it's just the word banana. If you really had the courage of your convictions, you'd accept that it was meant in a racist way, that it was implying that Maja was a monkey, and harking back to the 70s and 80s when bananas were thrown at black players.

Defend that if you believe racism is acceptable, don't be a whelp and pretend it wasn't racist at all.

1,000% this. I only read page one so I hope some others feel the same (judging by the like ratio it seems so), but the absolute cowardice of these thick racists is telling. Desperately trying to talk around their views because they know that most people would consider it separate to 'free speech' by some margin, and they dont want to shatter their weird delusions that the folk of Sunderland are outraged about not being able to call a black lad a monkey on the regular.

It's also not covered by the Freedom of Expression laws we actually have in the UK.

People seem to get dragged into an Americanised way of discussing Freedom of Speech that sinoks doesn't apply here.

I've had people tell me that it's in our Constitution... We dont have a written one for fucks sake!
