I actually am quite impressed (although sad it has to be done) as I think the majority are challenging the racism and good on them. Even if you disregard the original post, the comments on this forum still show some people think it's ok to express racist views or are extremely ignorant as to what racism is. There was one person getting a lot of flak (rightly so) on the first few pages yet there were plenty of people 'liking' his comments. However, what give me some re-assurance is the amount of people who have been willing to challenge these idiots and the amount of 'likes' they have got. This thread shows that, whilst there is some way to go, the ignorant racist idiots are definitely in the minority and well done to all who have challenged them.
With regard to the pit village argument, I think again to section out one section of society is wrong. In pit villages are some of the most generous and accepting people, willing to help anyone of any background - there are also some racists...as there are in surrounding towns and Sunderland (and other) city centres.
There are still lots of ignorant people about but more re-assuringly, there are many more people willing to shout them down than there were in the past.

The type of people defending it don't seem to be in my daily life so it's a shock when people behave like that still.
