Monkeys aren't inherently racist. Calling a black person a monkey is racist, whether calling him it directly or whether doing it indirectly as has been described in the OP.

How can anyone reasonably get evidence?

It's absolutely embarrassing and I hear it all of the time. Those undercurrents are felt by the players and whilst it's easy to blame money for players not wanting to come North, I can help but think there's still a perception of Sunderland as a club. We need to be careful. I want us to be seen as a progressive, modern club as opposed to Brexit voting knuckle draggers.

No we don't, quite rightly, have free speech in this country. It's a trope trotted out by people, almost always from the right, who want to air their prejudices in public. We have laws which curb certain types of speech especially when the words used will impinge on other peoples freedoms. If you don't like it then I suggest at the next general election you vote for a party which wants to change the law.
