if I understand it correctly, and I may not, somebody (unknown) has appealed against the decision and so they are going through the appeals process atm


The cynic in me thinks that the ECB would like as much time as possible to see how Yorkshire's season is going before deciding on the severity of any points deductions. If their poor season continues, the ECB will hit them with a massive points deduction because it won't matter anyway. If they're in with a sniff of promotion that might change

on the podcast talking about the pathway for young Asian players getting into professional cricket. He mentioned an absolutely shocking statistic from his academic research/ PHD thesis that white and privately educated lads are 34 times more likely to play professional cricket than equivalent Asian lads - and he goes into some detail about explaining why.

Apart from anything else, these structural issues are just really inefficient from a talent-farming standpoint. If we want to compete at the top of the game internationally, we really need to sort these out going forward. Pretty grim that the biggest demographic playing cricket doesn't get opportunities for whatever reason.

Something addressed in the interview. But Dr Brown was keen to express that it is far more than that, there are specific barriers to those from an Asian background beyond just the fact they go to a state school. 30% of recreational players are from an Asian background but only 5% are in the county squads and 2% get to be professionals.
 
I always said that elitism is the problem in First Class cricket and rugby. County Clubs were formed from private indviduals personal cricket teams. The owners used to bet on them. I have said this before but a friend of mine was selected for Yorkshire County Rugby side. At the first game he played the Chairman was introduced to him. The Chairman asked him where he was from, "Bradford Sir." Which school did you go to was the next question. "Saltaire Grammar School, SIr." The reply came back, "What the hell are you doing here?"
 
I’m still wondering why it’s taking so long for any punishment to be forthcoming from the FTECB

The hearings have been held and decisions made . What is the delay in punishment or is there to be none ?

I think they will wait until after the T20 season, so the crowds keep coming, which they probably wouldn't if they knew there was no chance of qualifying for the knockouts

I’m very interested in what the punishment will be though

The Durham punishment is the template so that ashes test should be the last for the foreseeable

Anything less than that and the other punishments Durham received then imo Yorkshire have got away with it

It wouldn't surprise me if Yorkshire have already asked the ECB to wait until after the T20 or the Test match
 
If Yorkshire get punished like Durham did , then I will end FTECB on posting but not wearing the badge, that continues

Graves literally attempted to close Durham down and I still think his involvement with Yorkshire during the racism years , was basically over looked or covered up

We lost all of our best players. Let’s see Root and bairstow having to leave Yorkshire and I know they barely play for them but it would indicate a little of what Durham had to endure

Yorkshire need crowds, we cant have Yorkshire going bust like, absolutely vital for the game, biggest fan base in the country.

I agree with a lot of the posters on the Durham sanctions in comparison, its ridiculous, but need to move past that and I don't see that throwing the whole kitchen sink at Yorkshire is 1. Justified, and 2. Going to achieve anything.

I am fairly left on my views on most stuff, but this whole thing has been ridiculously over the top.

I feel the delay is down to try to work out how to punish Yorkshire in a way that seem fair to the way Durham were punished. However to do that would send Yorkshire to the wall. Removing test cricket would finish them and nobody wants that.

A compromise could be to give Yorkshire a hefty points deduction for 2 years across all 3 formats and at the same time recind some of the punishments originally handed out to Durham. I assume we are still paying off the ECB loan so they could write off the balance. Instead of removing test cricket for Yorkshire just take their next Ashes test off them in 4 years time and give it to us without any bidding (if they still have to do this) and share the profits from that test between us and the ECB.

Finally (if it still exists next season) move the Superchargers home games in the 16.4 to the Riverside. Host grounds get an extra payment on top of the £1.3m all clubs get for this - I think I saw £110,000 mentioned - so we could benefit from this even though nobody likes it.

I think that goes some way to a solution.

I think you’re giving the ECB a bit too much credit there. They couldn’t give a toss about Durham
 

Full sanctions​

  • Gary Ballance - Six-match playing suspension [if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket] and a £3,000 fine
  • John Blain - £2,500 fine
  • Tim Bresnan - Three-match playing suspension [if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket] and a £4,000 fine
  • Andrew Gale - Four-week coaching suspension [if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket] and a £6,000 fine
  • Matthew Hoggard - £4,000 fine
  • Richard Pyrah - Two-week coaching suspension [if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket] and a £2,500 fine
