He'd give them a three point deduction and make them promise not to do it again.

There won't be one, not a sufficient one like taking internationals off them and effectively making them unsustainable financially anyway. ECB are too scared to do that, but it would be the correct one for cricket. Perhaps then some decent people, if there are any with the time and inclination to do it, can work on setting up a Wimbledon style phoenix club.

There'll be outrage if Yorkshire get nothing more than a slap on the wrist. They won't lose international privileges but I can see them getting busted down div2 for 2024 season and having to start with points deducted. Probably a big fine as well.

Otherwise every cricket journo is going to ask the same questions we are....is being a club in debt worse than a club being racist?

This won't be a case of ride it out until it becomes yesterday's news. That's certainly not going to happen.

That might as well be a slap on the wrist. Should be exactly what Durham got but for longer, including the international ban. But money talks and the Headingley internationals are too lucrative

Yeah I'd be happy for them to lose the internationals but as I understand it the club would go bust and I wouldn't want to see one of the counties go to the wall because of some rotten apples. There are many genuine supporters who are disgusted at the racists in there. The county has much work to do but do it they must.

But the ‘trial‘ hasn’t taken place yet? The enquiry will need to make its findings once it has considered the evidence and the punishment will depend upon the severity of what is found to have occurred. YCCC and Ballance have effectively pleaded guilty, others have chosen not to defend themselves (but have not admitted the allegations), and only Vaughan is actively contesting. The punishment, whatever it is, will follow the outcome of the enquiry. To do otherwise wold be akin to someone charged with a crime being sentenced by the Judge before the jury has reached a verdict.

And I realise that these aren’t criminal proceedings, but similar considerations still apply. There needs to be due process before the proverbial book is (hopefully) thrown at them.

The questions to Rashid are standard cross examination tactics attempting to challenge his powers of recall. The obvious riposte is that it is far more likely that he is going to remember something like a racist comment than what he had for his lunch that day.

Vaughan's lawyer Christopher Stoner is now addressing Adil Rashid.

He starts by asking about the 22 June 2009 and whether it was a day or night game.

Rashid says he cannot recall that.

He is asked where it took place and replies: "Nottingham."

Rashid is asked the result and says he cannot remember.
