Marcus Stewart. It was around this time that I properly fell in love with Sunderland and football and he had a few quality seasons with us. Thought it was a mistake letting him go at the time.

You see I actually thought it was the right thing to do, (despite a recent hatrick), he had looked a bit stale and the team definitely needed to be freshened up.Marco
Reid was stubborn. Iirc he froze out Alan Johnson and bridges for not signing contract extensions following our promotion.Bridges
Brought in Andy gray and John stead to replace him. HorrendousMarcus Stewart. It was around this time that I properly fell in love with Sunderland and football and he had a few quality seasons with us. Thought it was a mistake letting him go at the time.
however I was devastatedYou see I actually thought it was the right thing to do, (despite a recent hatrick), he had looked a bit stale and the team definitely needed to be freshened up.
Getting Rogan, Goodman and Byrne with the money was good business.
You say horrendous… I say prolificBrought in Andy gray and John stead to replace him. Horrendous
Baxter was a bad influence on the club , fell out big time with Hurley other players about religion , serious drinking problems and other serious disciplinary problems if you can Remember he was banned from the club for a week , I can’t go into details on here.Jim Baxter
Kevin Phillips
Colin Todd
Jordan Pickford
Jim.Montgomery
AS a kid, I worshiped Baxter because his skills were sublime yet I know he represented a dark (McColl) period at the club.
I knew we were on the slide when SKP left - awful day.
Same with Todd, although relegation made it inevitable. Same with Pickford.
Monty? My hero? I know he was getting past his best but how could Sunderland ever, ever, EVER sell Monty?
I agree it was a shock, as it was the first big hero of mine (started going around 87), that was being sold for big money.however I was devastated
Goodman n Byrne didn't really do it for me. Byrne had his FA cup run. He didn't want to come here. Hated it up here. You see I actually thought it was the right thing to do, (despite a recent hatrick), he had looked a bit stale and the team definitely needed to be freshened up.

Oh ok. I'm sure very early on for us he scored 2 in 3 games running. May heave dreamt it.Didn’t score on his debut but think he hit the post. Fairly sure he only came on as sub though? Against Chester at home I think.
Canny sure it was the summer transfer window after we sold Bent to Villa as well?Gyan - sold after the transfer deadline (i think) I couldn’t get my head around it
Bent and Ghan late in that transfer window when we had no replacement lined-up. We`ve been in terminal decline ever since, which hopefully may be coming to an end with promotion this season.Bent. Was wounded when he left.
He was good in the first division and for the first half of the premier league season, then his age caught up with him...Then we signed him on a longer deal a few years later ♂
Yip!Marco
I was posted to the Caribbean at the time and when the news was given to me I felt fxxking crap. DevastatedToddo. That was the end of the age of innocence as far as I as concerned.
Yup, his departure marked the start of our decline.Hutchison. Grade A prick these days but he offered more than we had.
