Peter Drury on commentary

I don’t like his flowery prose.

When I was a kid and first got into football (1992), there was Motson, Davies, Moore, Sindstadt, Gubba, and Alan Parry, and a young Clive Tyldesley (Tyler was on Sky and we didn’t have that). What a golden era of commentators!
Same, I don’t watch many other matches live except safc, commentators and pundits are absolutely shite nowadays

It’s class but in a very small dose, he does it far too often imo.
This, The best bit of commentary I have heard was when that Greek lad for Roma scored in the CL overturning the deficit from Barca -

But half the stuff he says now must be so scripted it's just lost it's entire appeal.

He tries to make every single moment a highlight that in 5/10 years time will look amazing as a 30 second clip on youtube. I think it was Gallagher in the last few minutes of normal time where really he should have scored and he shouts something like “This is Connor Gallagher”. If that goal goes in and he wins the cup that moment will become iconic for years, instead it was a decent save and the shouting wasn’t needed.

All he needs to do is give himself a second or so to let the moment happen before deciding if he needs to go mental.

Anyone else can’t f***ing stand the absolute shite that comes out of his mouth? Tries far too hard to be poetic, comes across as scripted nonsense.
Another reason these prime tv games are unbearable to watch.
He started off this final with this:

‘The Red Sea and blue, in thrilling discord with the red Mersey beat. It is the ear splitting heart pumping disharmony of the dream Wembley event. They're at it again, blues and reds for the first prize of springtime for the fresh cream shoot of a new Chelsea blossoming all for the final flowering of liverpool under Jurgen klopp
What do you expect? The man's an arse....
