People were wrong about Short ...

.... and it's killing them.

There must have been dozens of posters who vehemently insisted Short had a plan to take the club into administration and 'thereby line his pockets' or whatever. Even logical replies by people who understand finance, such as @Grumpy Old Man, were dismissed out of hand by people who 'knew better'.

I suspect this is the reason for so many of these 'I bet there are hidden clauses from Short and we'll be paying him for years' threads.

I've seen people claiming all kinds of dirty tricks regarding the takeover that will come back to haunt us, they simply refuse to believe we're debt free.

FFS lads, just accept he's done the decent thing and has given us the chance to draw a line on the past. Going back over Short, Bain, Byrne, etc etc etc is destructive and part of the problem. It's often said, on here, that there's a self destructive attitude from people who just happy clap and accept shit ..... so why don't those people look on the bright side, for once, and accept this opportunity to rebuild the club in the right way, just a thought.
Exactly what people were wrong about Short? Names.

Hes done the decent thing in the end but hes absolutely humiliated us over the last 4-5yrs and hes cost us a generation of fans. Hes steered us to the lowest ebb in our history and lets keep everything crossed the new consortium can pull us out of it. To be honest im staggered at the amount of people who just forget what short has done to the club, the fans the loss of jobs purely cause hes paid back his own catastrophic management.

The bloke clearly has a lot of integrity..... football and indeed business is full of people who would just pull the plug and walk away to minimise loss regardless of the people and community consequences.
I just don’t understand if he was prepared to write off the debt why did he not drip feed the few million last season which would have at least kept us in that division. Why with 10 years to get it right could you not build a team of credible experienced people to run the organisation professionally with the right expertise. And then he goes and applies a due diligence to the process of selling the club to the right people he never applied to hiring managers, board members or players.
Just bizarre..... there is a bit me hope he stays on as an investor given he’s being paid in instalments.

Maybe it just took a different perspective (preparing to sell the club) to truly acknowledge the mistakes that had been made. We’ll probably never know.

Methven was very clear that Short ultimately knew and admitted where he had gone wrong, and was anxious to avoid successors that might do the same. As frustrating and messed up as the last few years were, I’m immensely thankful that Short eventually wiped the debt and gave us a fresh start. As you say, that was a footnote of real integrity, and we can now move on.

What's bizzare is, you write down his failings and still want him as an investor

I nearly clicked like but stopped myself on the brink of doing so when I remembered supporting

Sunderland is a very broad church of opinion - ying and yang - nobody is right and nobody is wrong and everyone is wrong and everyone is right - FFS - the banter is the game.

Short has come and gone and done some some good and some bad.

Now I’m full of excited hope again and also dread and fear

I've got a lot of time for Ellis. He tried and failed but he has given us a chance.

Fuck short the kernt. We supposed to suck his cock cos he did the right thing after all his monumental fuck ups?

"But mom, ain't I done well? I'm not in jail."

Why should we be congratulating him for something he should be doing as minimum?

However stupidly he splashed it around his money helped deliver a decade of top flight football. It was generally shit to watch mind but we were there.

Over the period of his tenure he made decent money out of us.....he left us two divisions from where we should be & with a squad we can barely give away in many cases due to the monumental clusterfuck over contract awards

I believe those are facts

Therefore additional debate is fairly irrelevant

The thing posters are forgetting here about the situation, is that human nature is variable. You are always going to get different personalities due the the wide variants that make up our individual ego’s.

Doubt is inbuilt into our phyche, some can forget slights easily while for others it takes time. Some will never forget.......You can try to make what to you appear to be really relevant points about what you see as negativity, but for some it is caution, views of which I can understand both points.

Your opinion is your opinion and while it may appear matter of fact and may be correct in your eyes and right for you, but irrespective it is not a one size fits all and a viewpoint to which everyone buys in.

Let’s just Agree to have our differences and support the club how we want to be able to do. There is no right or wrong way, no book or manual.........just support however you feel comfortable. If posters have a different view point to you does not necessarily mean you or they are right or wrong......you have a different opinion, so what, opinions are like buses, run fast or slow and despite having a timetable occasional maintenance or breakdowns will effect the service.

Your views matter a great deal to you, but to be honest effect anyone else.......meh nope. Whether they or disagree does not matter it is about the journey, we are currently on a new page of a new journey. Let’s hope the result pleases us all as we approach journey,s end and in the process enjoy the ride.

Mind, this is deep and reflective and may be too much, so let us end where we can all agree less those not of our support. Ha Way the Lads, The new management and us!
