Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

You saying he always just runs into people after 2 seconds? Absolute bullshit
Well I didn't mean literally 2 seconds. But most of the time it lead to nothing.

Do you think he'd be skipping past multiple players at this level like?

We've just moved past him. Recalling him would be absolutely pointless.
Don't disagree with a word of that. He'll always be well thought of by me
100%. Came here when we were at our lowest ebb and dragged us back to the PL.

Top bloke and great servant. Will always be warmly received here and found a home for the first time in his career.

This. Probably moved on from him but he was a brilliant watch. Yeah frustrating at times but thats part and parcel of his position but some of his tricks, faints, first touches were wonderful to watch. I'll always have fantastic memories of him especially after Wembley
Apparently he always just ran into someone mate. My eyes mustve decieved me all the times i went to the match and watched him glide past two or three players easily.

And that makes him a PL level player? Which is what I've spoke about consistently on this thread.

Yes ,i do think he wouldve skipped past players in the prem. I just dont think physically he is up to the prem anymore. I am sure he wouldve got minutes if he didnt want the loan move so he could play more.

Maybe. That ability to get the ball under and skip past someone is not very common.

Not up to the prem anymore? When has he ever been? He's played 99 minutes in the PL in his whole career.

Sell him just to stop these endless debates about his time here
It's the same arguments over and over. Goals, assists blah blah

How he's doing now and how he might have done now with us are interesting discussions though

He always created great partnerships. Diallo in the first season, Hume - Roberts - Rigg was a great axis that allowed Hume to attack. I've read a lot of bollocks about end product but his contributions to how we attacked last season far out weighed any personal contributions. Superb little player, Birmingham fans are lucky to have him entertain them

How many minutes had dan ballard had in the prem?
Ballard isn't 29 like Roberts, its probably also easier for defenders to step up to the PL imo. Especially a physical player like Ballard in a season when the PL has gone very direct and set piece orientated.

There will also be players who develop later and step up the levels later. But Roberts' game and stats have never been anywhere near what you'd think would step up to the PL.

His partnership with diallo was unbelievable. He'd have players of similar skill around him now. It mightve worked,we dont know

Neither had ballards.

He's a good enough footballer to have played some sort of a role here this season, but the ship has definitely sailed now survival is all but guaranteed. Need to look to the future and strengthen. Still love him though

Your one step away from telling us Roberts would be class at Man City or Real Madrid because its just his teammates not up to his level:lol:

He'd have sat on the bench maybe around afcon but wouldn't be getting on the field with these better players to show it.

And? Do you not think he was class with diallo around him? It was some of the best football i have ever seen Sunderland play, including this season
I don't disagree. That was hugely helped by Amad taking multiple men away and giving Roberts more space. Roberts is a fantastic dribbler and having that space and attacking football under a coach like Mowbray will have him at his best.

A coach like Le Bris, in the PL and playing physical, structured football is never going to suit him.

I actually think le fee couldve been his diallo, but he never(or very rarely)played centrally with roberts,he was mostly on the left.Anyway,we'll never find out now, that ship has sailed. Dont think we'll ever agree on him,but thats fine. Thats what forums are for!

He also made some vital contributions. Wembley and Hillsborough are the obvious ones but the Watford equaliser under Mowbray and the Bristol City equaliser to keep the unbeaten home record last season. I remember him scoring a screamer for Derby in a must win relegation match.

He doesn't really have big player in the big moments type persona but he was that man for.us.
