Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

One of those players that the club has probably outgrown now unfortunately. Not good enough to threaten for a starting place in the premier league - there may be a role for him off the bench at times but not much more imo. Even if the worst happens and we were to go back down, i'm not sure i'd want us to have 29 year old Roberts starting week in week out in the championship.

We need a squad so wouldn't want him to leave this window, but i suspect this season will be his last here.

Done a great job for us overall and played a huge part in dragging us back from league 1 - which can't be ignored

Spot on

Time for him to be moved on

He looked completely lost in the first half playing left side. Unwilling or unable to try much.
Second half he improved but you could say that about most of the team.

He frustrated me at times, we all know he's got the quality but he seems didnt improve at all. He need to practice his delivery that we all crying out. His problem is pace, he is very slow, easy to defend. He can be a "Messi" type of player if he is that quick and good decision-making.

We all know he is not prem standard these days and he can be very frustrating

Has been a good servant and produced some good moments for the club over the last few years

Second half in particular he saw a lot of the ball and I was willing him to do something decent with it. Never happened.
Penalty aside that was dreadful.
Maybe worse than watching a shit player floundering out of his depth is watching someone with his obvious ability just fuck up over and over again. So frustrating.

At one point he shrugged off three players then squared the ball a simple ten yard pass … to no-one. I’ve had it with him now.
If the striker peels off and checks his run the ball's in the right area. If Roberts gets his head up n squares it to Guiu's feet, the defender eats it up for breakfast.

It was ultimately a bad ball though.

That's the trouble with one footed footballers, can't cross with his right and cuts inside to get the ball on his left side every time.

he was much better when Regis decided to play a formation that made some sense. granted he should never ever be allowed to shoot but he was getting himself involved and looked more of a threat than most of the others. Rigg was shocking for example

I’m not sure what rigg is meant to be good at.

He looks a million miles off the player that we saw at the start of last season

But he doesn’t impact?!

nowhere near good enough to be coming off the bench.. and that can be said for most of them.

He didn’t even impact the game against Huddersfield.
We’re desperate for more forward players. The creativity in this team is non existent which is what it was like last near the end of last year.

We need some wingers who are pacey, direct and can cross the ball by getting down the line
“Getting down the line” doesn’t appear to be part of the modern day game. Look at Grealish at city , Jack Clark for us , Roberts, Mundle , it’s all inverted wingers cutting inside and passing sideways our backwards. Pep has a lot to answer for.
We have players with pace to play on the break but getting crosses into the box is not part of our set up. It’s not just us , look at a lot of teams, winger had the ball , there’s rarely anybody in the box is, it’s all about playing through the middle. Not that I’m a fan mind , but that’s my take on it.

Agree , but so has Gooch and look where he was last night. Time to thank Roberts and move him on.

I can’t remember seeing a player scuff so many shots in my lifetime.

It seems like a player being close to him is enough to make him rush his shot.

Then he takes that pen with a bit of time and makes it look easy.
