Strauss: 19, 6, 11, 32 (17 average)
Cook: 3, 5, 94, 7 (27)
Trott: 17, 66, 74, 1 (40)
Pietersen: 2, 0, 14, 1 (4)
Bell: 0, 4, 29, 3 (9)
Morgan: 24, 14, 3, 0 (10)

Yikes.

best team in the world, this is new England, chill out man

Dont get your knickers in a twist man. If a team get to world number one they deserve it by the cricket they play - if they get knocked off they deserve by the cricket they play. They got to number 1 with Jimmy in the team which you said wouldnt happen, they got there by beating the Aussies in their back yard which you said wouldnt happen, by beating India which you said wouldnt happen.

You also said England would get unstuck in the sub continent - Ive always said if you continually predict doom and gloom every time we play you will inevitably be right at some stage - have a nice glass of champers fella!

tbf we still are the best in world.

the ranking show this.

also, can you name any side at the mo who are on very good on their travels? seems like we have numerous test sides who are dominant on their own patch and then go to pieces when they tour.

Indefensible batting performance, not learnt a thing.

good bowling + clueless batting = low scores

we are lucky pakistan went with the seamers for a bit against swann and broad or we might have been even more embarrased. our play against spin is laughable.

Tidied.

Vaughan's been spot on all the way through this innings - we've been far too cautious. It's up to their bowlers to create pressure, but we've been doing it for them anarl.

why are we so rigid in our approach? when we getting completely bogged down why couldnt we send someone like prior in further up the order? might work, might not, but we needed someone to put pressure back on the bowlers. isstead we just got rabbit after rabbit coming in and trying to defend. it was a dream for the pak bowlers.

''deserve'' strip out the gimme ranking points in the May rain then

why?

those our english conditions which help us, as the home side.

no different to playing in india when its a dust bowl in melting pot termpertaures which helps them, the home side.

How ignorant are England then, letter on it's way to the ECB requesting praise to god upon every victory from now on.

its ignorant of england not to acknowledge God, but then we have many none believers so its hardly surprising.

Gutted.

But on the plus side, it was riveting test cricket at its best. Love it like.

No need to slit our wrists though, hats off to Pakistan, they have turned into a decent test team even though their batting is still fragile.

The ODI's and T20's are going to be a struggle like.

thinking about it, is there any team playing that is as good away as they are at home.
Pakistan- cant play swing/seam
Eng- cant play spin
Aus- Hav no proven INT. spinners
India- Disaster away from home
SA- No proven INT. spinners
NZ- Brittle batting
WI- Never get there best XI out
Bangladesh- No seamers
Sri Lanka- No seamers

Indeed, before I pen my letter who do I suggest they blame when they get beat?

Nasser Hussain is starting to look more and more like Mr Burns from the Simpsons every time I see him.

I can't see how that is the case. His batting fair enough but he can't bat for the 10 others.

I'm assuming there were some orders behind the massively over-tentative English batting. Vaughan got it spot on imho - that innings should have started with aggression, and then maintained it. Poor tactics imho.

Is the correct answer.
Good post.

Not saying there haven't been teams who could, the greats of yester year. At the moment there isn't one though.

I think everyone on here can take a beating if its in a completive nature. When England get beat its always a hammering

Not sure if this test was a hammering mate. We were in the box seats for most of the game, its just when push came to shove our batters mentality in their technique was found wanting.

On the plus side notable mentions for Monty, Broad, Swann and Cook, who played well during a tightly fought test.

maybe,

But a test match team should not be bowled out for 72 chasing 140 odd.
