good use of the referral system there.... still think the game is slipping away though as 2nd innings will be just as tough.

mahmood bowls 90 odd mph

jimmy takes another and that the close of play

pakistan ahead in the game but without doubt that was englands day.

150 run lead when we are going to do the bulk of our batting on day 4 to catch up will be a monumentous recovery from England.

I am not convinced are batsman are skilled enough to rattle off 400 against their spin attack on day 4/5 to make this interesting but fingers crossed

i have similar concerns. IF our batsmen can stay in and get starts then it should get easier.

Need to skittle them out for less than 150 lead, if we can do that then we have a chance of saving the test (as long as we dont collapse again).

Good day today allorund, we bowled well, they batted decent. LOVE TEST CRICKET ME.

its nice to see some 'proper' test cricket where bowlers have to earn their wickets (at least in their innings) and a test which could potentially go either way day 4 onwards depending on how tomorrow goes.

Fully agree with PM

just found this on cric info

''Only once in the past 20 years have England won a completed Test after making less than 200 in the first innings of a match''

EB ^

It's great to see bowlers taking wickets on fairly flat pitches for once.

Usually its 600/7 plays out 450/5

Agreed. All the bowlers did well today, with Broad being the stand out! If we are to have any chance of winning this we need to hope Pakistan play as poorly in their 2nd innings as England did in their 1st.

Going all over the shop. Colombo, then up to the ancient cities, then the hill country then down Galle and Unawatuna 8-)

Go middle of Feb. Works out so I cant see any of the tests over there (will be back before the series kicks off) and will miss the derby

aye, i was down for that test. Broadys hat trick was top dollar!

You still heading out there for a test like?

You'll have to let me know what Una's like, six of us there during the test. Doing Hikkaduwa for the couple of days before. We're on Sri Lanka airways flight direct from Heathrow.

Only potentially big game I miss is cup QF replay, works out canny for us.

I take it you've signed up for their new ETA system btw?

What's the point of having hotspot if the 3rd umpire's just going to over-rule it anyway? Shocking decision for Strauss.

Ive seen it a few times and no idea how you can think he was out.

The 3rd umpire saya he hears a noise, is that good enough to give someone out. All the evidence from video and hot spot shows he missed it.

Shocking call from the 3rd umpire

can see why it was given out as the original decision was out (so it must be clear evidence to say it was the wrong call). i know there was no hot spot but iirc the same thing happened when we were on the wrong end of a decision when graeme smith edged behind and wasnt given out (hot spot showed nothing but there was a massive noise as it past the bat, with bat being away from the body). england were fuming then saying the noise couldnt have been from anything else.

the shot from behind, it looks to me like the trouser material moves slightly where the ball passes.
