This is a typical example of when people’s emotions come into conflict with practically and logic.

I thought we were supposed to be doing away with common sense.

If the dog was ill, the least the owners could have done is take it to the vets and do the decent thing. The dog would have been distressed waiting for the owner to come back. The owners will probably be sitting at home feeling justified in their actions. The police did the right thing.

I haven’t read all of this but the common sense approach would be to microchip all dogs, enforce a dog licence so that owners are traceable, and allow vigilante dog lovers to enact terrible violence on scum who mistreat animals.
