Onions Lancashire Squad Best I've Ever Played In

Well, that's arguable, but he never mentioned the word 'deepest' either.

What he said was:

"The strength in this squad is by far the best I've played with, for the volume of players,"

When the words 'strength in this squad' are used, I take that to mean that he's talking of how much quality there is within the squad. I think if anything, people will always make of things what they will. It's clear the author of the article took it as a dig at Durham - as have many on here.

you quote the sentence then ignore the last few words of it 'for the volume of players'

to be fair I'm not sure I've ever argued it wasn't a dig at durham, I think he is entitled to feel slighted by the club

Durham have had sides that would give international teams a run for their money

Does it matter if people on here have an opinion?
Yes if it's delivered without the need for abuse, if the other has a different one

Words such as f off, are you a moron and such other gems

He has his opinion and we are allowed to have our own opinion on what his opinion is. That's what a forum is all about.

As I said, people can air any opinion they want.

I can't stand it, when an opinion differs and then a torrent of abuse follows.

Agree. They're only sporting issues that are discussed and some posters just don't appear to be able to accept that opposing opinions can co-exist.

I've seen worse to be fair!

for example saturday when people were saying it this is the worst side we've had since we were a minor county

At Durham? I'd fancy their chances.

Against the top tier test teams??? don't talk absoulte rubbish!!

Even though his statement is daft he gave his all for Durham and genuinely cares.

Given the continual shortening of the Championship can his record ever be beaten?

Yeah exactly, players comments when they join new clubs both in football and cricket are taking out of context.

He was only trying to intergrate himself with his new team mates and fans, he was never going to say mind you are no where near as good as my old team.

Onions was nothing short of fantastic for Durham and should be remembered for that.

There are numerous occasions when County sides have beaten full strength touring sides. The 2009 Durham was a strong outfit by any County standards and given conditions at the Riverside are generally alien to touring sides history suggests they'd have a very good chance of being victorious.
As to Onions only he himself knows whether his comments were intended to be provocative. As an experienced cricketer, however, he would know that he should be guarded in his comments for fear of being misinterpreted unless of course, he was intending being provocative. He clearly has a grievance which is understandable.
