I'd have Wood, Atkinson, Woakes as my front 3.

Topely and Curran to rotate in and out to rest the two quicks and Woakes.

As you say 9 games is going to be tough for those 3 to play all.

I have loved the Roy/Bairstow opening partnership over the years but let's be honest, if you had to chose between Roy and Brook, there's only one winner. Open with Butler if you must pick Stokes. There's only Root I would have in front of Brook at this point.

Whilst I don't wish injuries on anyone, I hope Harry gets into the squad as an alternate.

Even if Brook wasn’t penciled in to start surely he’s a better reserve than Malan? Malan really only seems a suitable replacement for Root if he’s injured or unavailable whereas you’d fancy Brook could slot into any role in the ODI team and be a success.

I think opposition teams will be happy Brook isn’t there, he’s a potential game changer. I like Malan but I would imagine every team would rather we had him starting over Brook.
 
I expect India will make it as difficult as possible for Pakistan to win tbh. Just realised I'm visiting the Attari/Wagah border crossing/ceremony on the day they play each other.

Malan can be frustrating. Takes five overs to warm up and is great if he gets going. But if he's out after six overs then you feel disappointed he's used a lot of balls up for not many. Brook would be ahead of him for me, like Root he's a run a ball from the off.

Buttler has played only two innings out of 100 in ODI cricket higher than 5 for a reason.

Malan has averaged over 60 in the last couple of years in ODI and he can bat anywhere in the top 4
 
Think it looks really open tbh. No stand out sides that you think should be favourites. Could be any from 4 or 5, us Aus, India, Pakistan, NZ

I suspect you will be right about Pak's being given the short end of the stick, I hope you're wrong though and they go deep. I have a very big soft spot for thanks to my parents. Last year's T20 final was the best for me. Win win. Same again please.

RE Malan. Its a weird one for me. Class player on his day but his technique and mentality almost seems to be from a by gone age. Get your eye in, accelerate and catch up by the end.

I almost wish Baz took over the limited overs set up too. It would have been interesting to see what/if any difference he could make to the shorter formats.
