ODI World Cup

Yeah I pretty much understand NRR now

It's got nothing to do with margin of victory which I always thought it was, it's just your teams run rate minus the oppositions.

So our RR was 2.59 better than Bangladesh and our was 2.14 worse than NZ the other day.

So our NRR should be 0.45, but they must round up and keep RR to 2 decimal points. As on cricinfo table we were -2.149 and now 0.553
@Nasser Butt-Head

I've found out where the discrepancy is. As we bowled Bangladesh out with balls to spare, their score is divided by 50 instead for calculating NRR.

Hence our NRR being 0.553 instead of 0.45

Nor, saving me Sunderland shirt for Delhi next week.

First time at a cricket match in India, lovely ground but a bit of a shite experience (apart from the result). Got to the ground down a narrow back lane and crossed a school playground with a load of bemused kids watching us. Very strict entry into the ground, all you could take in was a phone, paper notes only (nee coins, the beggars done well with the ones thrown away), sunglasses and flags.

No alcohol on sale, expensive coke in its place. Very few England and slightly more Bangladesh fans. Lots of school kids on free tickets but they all had to nash off at about 4pm which made the ground look empty. Lots of feral Indian fans who just turned up just to goad the Bangladeshis.

Game was an improvement on last week but still some poor individual performances. Woakes is never an opening bowler, Curran looked sloppy and not threatening, Wood looked tidy but not threatening. Livingstone looked decent bowling but it was at their tail end tbf. Was odd watching him at gully doing theatrical dives to a straightforward stop. A collapse at 300 is better than a collapse at 150 tbf. If you've got that many on the board with 3 down and 10 over left you might as well have a bit of a go imho. Some times it comes of, sometimes it doesn't.

Next stop Delhi (via Amritsar and a bit of sightseeing). Namaste.

keep the reports coming, great read.
Pakistan cruising this. Sri Lanka’s bowling attack looks poor without Hasaranga.
Wouldn't call it cruising mate , esp when they lost Babar early, but Abdullah and now Rizwan have batted beautifully!

83runs from 42balls with 7wickets. Should be running this in, be typical Pakistan to throw this away!

 Mate, I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing at the fact you're even trying to work it out! Fuck that, I hated A level maths, NRR and Duckworth Lewis, you need a degree with!

Kudos to you though!

I didn't think you were! I was just sharing the updated information I'd find out on NRR, as you had engaged with my post

I got a B in GCSE Maths so I'm no definitely no wiz myself. After how bad we started, I wanted to try and understand it after 10+ years of not having a f***ing clue.

DLS I'd rather pluck one of me eyes out then try and learn how that works.

You would think victories against Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are likely. That takes England to 8 points. After that you’re looking at 2 wins from India, Australia, South Africa or Pakistan.

12 points should be enough?

I really feel like we can beat India just by getting into their heads. They are tremendous on paper but weak mentally imo. Need Stokes for that game.

Think we’ve got our work cut out for us though. Very difficult competition this year, especially having lost to NZ

Teams are scoring heavily, 340 is no guarantee of a win anymore.

Well done to Pakistan for a record WC chase of 345. Can't say they played anywhere near their best, toothless with the ball, shoddy in the field but bowled well at the death to restrict SL to under 345.

It will be a good shot in the arm for their batters, especially since Babar got out for nowt. 1st time they've ever chased more than 275 in a WC. Sri Lanka will rue their last 10ovs with the bat, I think they only made 66-6 or something. Match lost right there.

Unimpressed with Pakistan tbh
I know what you mean mate, they haven't fully subscribed to the new T20 way to play ODI's, not particularly flashy with the bat and their bowling is short of some stars. But they were ranked no.1 ranked side not so long ago, they do know how to win just not maybe the way we want them to.

4/5th favourites for me.
