NUFC/Sportwashing

You mean outward looking resistance?
What would you expect after Ashley?
Would you expect fans to stand outside the ground and chant for the new owners to be gone?

You did that plenty of times over the last decade for an owner you deemed "not worthy" of being the custodian of your hallowed club.

NUFC supporters organised themselves and sung songs and called him names outside the stadium, his shops and his own home.

Has anything changed in your beliefs to throw the moral compass of your supporters off so significantly overnight?

On the slightly worrying side for the mags, if the Saudis get enough negative press/abuse from the rest of the world on a weekly basis they may just say "fuck this" and up & leave.

The stuff with Disney and Uber etc is all under the radar.

The premier league is a massive 24/7 spotlight. They'll no longer be able to simply dismember any dissenters.

Anymore mags spouting sack the board need to be looking over their shoulders
Hack the board Shirley

You can chirp on about morals only coming into it when it suits as much as you want.

The facts are that your de facto owner intentionally starves kids, tortures his own people, has journalists dismembered, and that isn't even getting into the role they play in international terrorism. Thats nothing to do with our opinions, its just facts.

You can spend as much time as you want telling us we have faux morals or whatever. But I sit easy knowing that my club is not owned by one of the most barbaric regimes on earth.

The bulk of your support has been beyond desperate for this to happen. But whether you like it or not what your club now stands for has changed. Probably for good. And I suspect in the fullness of time quite a few of you will regret you were ever taken over by these scumbags.

Just think?

On the first home match the Crown Prince attends there could be thousands of NUFC supporters welcoming him at the airport.

Cheering the landing of his personal plane that was used to transport the team of assassins to Turkey to murder a journalist who criticised him.

What a time to be alive...
(or not depending upon your relationship with the new owners)

I've just consulted with a PhD graduate in moral and political philosophy (currently two floors above me). and he begs to differ. Attempting to justify a position by changing your moral response is not in fact a morally justifiable stance. In his words, "It's actually sociopathy".
Personally I see it as a warning. When Di Canio was hired, I didn’t know much beyond his media profile, that he was loved by West Ham fans and did a good job there.

The information was out there but I didn’t see it through rose tinted spectacles. I was irritated by the miners taking their banners back and David Miliband quitting, dismissing them as an overreaction and a politician’s publicity stunt.

Ultimately it didn’t take long to see the bloke was crackers and had very suspect political beliefs but in those few weeks I went through a state of denial not unlike that of our friends up the road.

This should be my “There but for the grace of God go I” moment but Newcastle fans have taken this to another level. When we hired Di Canio there were strong voices of dissent where at St James Park there was only the sound of celebration.

I honestly can’t imagine myself or the majority of Sunderland fans campaigning to be bought by a country with so many moral deficiencies, ones which are clearly marked out in the press, by Amnesty International and our own politicians.

Di Canio was sacked, bringing my sense of shame to an end. Newcastle won’t find it so easy to break their bargain.

I consider myself as a run of the mill Newcastle fan. 75% of games home and away since 1972.
I’m glad to see the back of Ashley and Sports Direct at the club. Although financially stable, the life has been sucked out of the club. No fun
Do I agree with what happens in Saudi? Of course not, it’s a despicable regime.
If I see a person with a tea towel on his head v Spurs, I’ll make my views known.

Will the takeover affect my support of the club I love? Will it balls.
I can totally see your point.

For me the majority of football is now morally baseless - Newcastle now being the worst.

I’m done with financially supporting pro football and hopefully my son will think the same when he’s older. English football fans = Turkeys voting for Christmas imo.

What's the honest opinions on the takeover down the road? Before the flurry of abuse, I think SAFC are in great hands with the Dreyfus family.

Got to laugh at a lot of the comments on here.

If someone asked me the colour of the Saudi flag I'd have struggled. Didn't know there was writing on it and wouldn't have had a clue what it meant.

Now the hotbed of vexillology that is the SMB are piling in to criticise daft charvas, who would struggle to find Saudia Arabia on a map, for having a can and holding a flag to celebrate the end of the Ashley reign.

If you have a problem with this takeover then aim at those who were responsible. Ashley, Stavely, Reubens, HM Gov, the premier League. Please don't try to claim that your own charvas wouldn't be doing the same.

This place has a history for trying to claim you are somehow different. You're not. It's not that long ago that a significant number of people on here were supporting Johnson while he was awaiting trial for noncing.
You were doing ok until you grasped at the Johnson straw. I think there's a lot of truth in what you say... Most will not know anything at all about KSA at the minute but they will eventually. Just as the implications of Brexit are only now starting to manifest themselves I suspect the same will happen with this lot
