NUFC/Sportswashing - Summer 2022

Maxi is not, and never has been a "top player". But he's about the best you have in a very mediocre squad.

But because your fans rate anyone in a black and white shirt as "world class", "Among the best" or "England material" you all massively overrate him.

He's a one trick pony with a serious attitude problem. But he can beat a man. That will always get attention when it works, and there will always be clubs who will take a punt on him sorting out the lack of commitment.

If he goes for 40 or 50 million, he's massively overpriced and its exactly the kind of business you'd have been up in arms about had Ashley done it

Are they insistent that it's Saudi women?

If so then get onto the BBC as that's huge! Even if it's just foreign women I would be getting the word out there. Saudi is changing!

Or maybe you are making it up.
I can see how my 'top player' point has been taken as in world football when that was not the intention. Simply meant 'top player' for the mags. All the signings I mentioned are/were top players for the mags. The signings of Bruno and Botman are no different to under Ashley was my point.

I don't think we'd have got Bruno and Botman under Big Mike
Must admit that I’d never heard of either of them until Newcastle moved in for them. So the chances are Newcastle could have easily bought them under Ashley.

Also wonder just how good the legendary Dutch international (with zero caps) Botman is. The new Dutch manager of Man Utd is desperate for a centre half and never even considered looking at his fellow Dutchman.

I’m getting a bit bored with these very similar responses mind. Almost as if you don’t have much left to say.

Reputation laundering is about using the emotional power of entertainment, a party, even food (Gastrodiplomacy) to improve people’s distaste of the people putting on the show, the earliest on record being “bread and circuses” in Ancient Rome.

If Russia is so bad, why did they lay on the Sochi Olympics eight years ago at a cost of £43 billion for three weeks?

If Qatar’s human rights are being questioned, why are they hosting a World Cup which will cost them an incredible amount of money?

If Saudi Arabia’s human rights for women are so bad, why are they sponsoring five women’s golf teams?

The Saudis have been buying up Snooker, Formula One and Golf for years because that’s all they could get their hands on.

Thanks to corrupt politicians in the UK they’ve moved it up a notch.

Until recently they’ve been hoying ridiculous amounts of money and using the reflected glory to boost their geopolitical image.

Now they’ve adopted the stroppiest, most insecure fans in European football, given them a Mam and Dad, dressed them up in the Saudi Flag and paid them an allowance to stay up rather than showering them in cash.

Exciting to see what happens next 😄
I understand the aims of sports washing just fine, cheers for that but it's not was I was asking for.

You claim that me being disgusted by the twitter reactions of Saudis to a pro diversity tweet is evidence of sports washing in action.

My question was if I'm actually having a more negative reaction to Saudi culture the more I'm exposed to it, how is it working on me?

Do you feel like answering it? Don't go on any tangents, stick to the point please

Would like. Neither of those are big name high profile players. Mitrovic and Wjinaldum were of equal standing in the game at the time of signing, and Joelinton’s fee equals that.

Dross like Dan Burn, Matt Target, Chris Wood and Trippier are all way worse in profile than the likes of Campbell, Ben Arfa, Alan Smith or Viduka.

It’s also worth noting that you are continuing to work within the FFP structures that Mike was. There hasn’t been any investment strategy deviation from working within those confines.
@ kingkeane
There it is

I wondered the same but then someone pointed out he wanted Martinez as left sided centre back, who they have signed.

Trippier could have signed under Ashley. Wife wanted back to North of England and none of the big clubs wanted him so he could have ended up there albeit on lower wages. Burn, Wood and Targett no better than what they signed in the last 14 years under Ashley. Bruno the one exception but 1032 EPL minutes - not even 12 games. Let us see how he progresses....

You are proper sportswashed like. Of course it makes sense, because now your club is saudi franchise fc, people will think 'oooh, look at that, saudi franchise players with rainbow laces, they have changed' . Its to try and soften their image, so they can carry on being twats in their own country, without questions being asked. You really don't get it, do you? And ,aye, mbs is an evil b#stard, and a modern day bond villain, contrary to what you are putting across, you brainwashed apoligist
More questions are being asked about the Saudis since the takeover than ever before

You're wasting your time. He's thick as whale spunk and just lies when he gets stuck. He's got nothing.

Mbs doesn't care about what you think about a few normal Saudis tweeting. He has proved in his lifetime his people mean nowt to him. Its an authoritarian state. He just cares about what people think about him and the ksa. And your staunch defence of him ,proves the sportswashing is working. I will ask again. Who makes the decisions at your club?

Nope

No bother. I'll continue liking and supporting things I believe in, whether you want me to or not
Like a murdering, homophobic regime?
Think it through numbnuts….you stand up for yourself in calling out the use of the word ‘mincing’ as homophobic….but in the same breath support a regime that has outlawed homosexual behaviour?
Confused much?

As I say…you have NOTHING going for you on here (or perhaps even in life) so just log off eh?

Do you honestly think MBS is sitting there wondering what to put out on the club's Twitter feed? And it's not something he's delegated? Laughable.

And you can deny the extra attention placed on the Saudi culture all you want, it's there for all to see

Except it's not though, is it? Because the club are investing in the women's team, speaking out about discrimination in football etc.

That directly contradicts the Saudi culture. Look how pissed off the Saudis on Twitter get when the club posts something along those lines. I'm glad it upsets them

“They make a public show of supporting women’s football thousands of miles away so they can’t be bad people”

That, my friend, is part and parcel of sportswashing

I don't support the Saudi regime. I support Newcastle United and their efforts to increase diversity and end discrimination in all forms. Stick to the facts
