NUFC/Sportswashing - Summer 2022

Basically because it's always at the top of the forum and is the most popular topic on here. My sole concern when it comes to football is SAFC but it doesn't mean I can't talk about other things.
So safc isn't your sole concern ,if you talk about other things.Ok

Disagree, they're our local rivals so of course he's going to have more of an 'interest'. For me it was the constant wailing of 'won't somebody think of the investment in the region?' when it fell through, this has went silent as soon as they took over.

Yes but surely if you feel so strongly about human rights atrocious in Saudi Arabia you'd be up in arms about it anyway, not just because they've bought the mags.
Are you sure you aren’t Captain Mag 😄

Yes marra, I must have imagined the 1,500+ Sunderland matches I've attended in the past 49 years!

You've only ever spoken about things that concern you? Really?

No concern marra. If that's something you enjoy doing then you crack on with it. I'm just one of the old school fans where Sunderland is my 1st, 2nd and 3rd thoughts when it comes to football. The rest don't matter nor concern me except when we play them.

Ask yourself this though. If it was any other team than those up the road who'd been bought by them would you be acting in the same way?

If the answer is yes, then fair enough. If it's no then it's all rather hypocritical and pointless really. You're really annoyed because they've bought THEM, first and foremost.
Obviously because they're our local rivals the focus is very much on them. Not that Man City doesn't sicken me too. The Qatar World Cup is also a concern. The Mags think we are the only ones speaking up but trust me there are fans from many clubs are vocal about this. There will be a group fanzine launching soon in which this is one of many Human Rights issues that will be highlighted as well as corruption in Football & it has a diverse set of fans involved. My interest has been many years in the making the Mags being taken over has amplified it. Plus after it broke there were many Mag fans in my face trying to bait me with the richest club nonsense. I'll carry on until something changes and they sell up. It doesn't get enough coverage in the mainstream.

I disagree tbh. Of course we would have more of an interest. This sportswashing is happening in our region to our local rivals. Kids may grown up choosing between Sunderland and Newcastle. Do we really want them choosing a team that is run on blood money?

Apologies friend

Several Newcastle fans have used “If it was a different team would you be banging on about KSA using the club to cover up their human rights abuses” so an easy mistake to make

If you say my only football concern is safc, then you come onto a thread about nufc, saying why didn't you criticise saudi before the takeover (how do you know he didn't),then I would say, safc isn't your sole concern.

They are free to choose who they want. The sensible ones will pick us. The others we don't want anyway.

I've already stated when it comes to football Sunderland are my 1st, 2nd and 3rd concern. Them lot don't matter to me until the day when we have to play them again. If these Saudis were skint and came in and started selling of their assets we'd all be sitting here having a good laugh at them. Human rights wouldn't even be getting a mention.

They've taken their path and we will take ours.

I disagree. If they were skint it would still be an issue. No club should be State owned for a start. And lack of money wouldn't wipe out what they do & have done.

@Exile 1968 marra you're letting them take over your life! Relax and enjoy us being a club on the up for a change. You can never truely enjoy what we're building here when you're consuming so much of your time on them lot.

For what it's worth I think they'll struggle. Seen loads of claims of top 8 or even top 6 for them next season. They've got no chance. They've just spunked 40 million on an uncapped defender. It's a total scatterbrain transfer policy they have there. Whilst I don't think they'll go down I reckon they'll be bottom 6.

I've made a bet with a mate (who is normally a rational mag - or was till the takeover) that Newcastle won't be top 8 next season.

I'll look forward to that bottle of malt!

The strange thing is, until the takeover he was a rational football fan. Sure we took the piss out of each other naturally. But he was always cautiously optimistic.... but realistic about his club.

Even he's now talking of "walking the FA Cup" and "Europe in 2 years".

I really hope that it's not long before it dawns on them that this "project" is not what they think.... and Staveley talking about titles is no different to what Fayed and Reynolds have done in the past

I disagree with that. Ultimately if they were skint and ended up getting them relegated we'd all be pissing ourselves laughing at them!

It won't end well for them, I'm almost certain of that. It's a different landscape to when Abu Dhabi bought Man City. They'll get bored of pumping in 100s of £millions with nothing to show for it.

F#cking hell. Whataboutery from so called sole concern sunderland fans now

This can’t be stressed enough

A real-life Bond Villain has bought a slice of the North East, intends to use them for propaganda purposes and some don’t think it’s a big deal.

You're missing the point. It's not about them being rich it's where it comes from. And secondly even if they were piss poor they would still be committing atrocities both in Saudi & beyond. When they take out the wrong person the Government stance may change. I'd still be vocal even if they were skint. The media as a whole are a joke. Sky & the local media are ridiculous the way they've handled it.

This. I think the reason they are so weird with us at the minute- even more anti-Sunderland than ever, is they are deep down shitting themselves that their owner is going to do something horrendous again. Imagine living with that- who's blood will our owners spill next while we wave our flags and get excited about potential signings!?

@Keith S30S

When the website is next upgraded please can we have an ignore thread option?
Plenty people on here moan about this and I'm not sure if the ignore thread option would be added given it may not be updated by the creator and cause future problems.

If you really don't want to see a thread then ignore the user who started it and you won't see it in the forum thread list. This however blocks all that user's posts also so not something that is an option all the time though you will see the posts hidden warning in threads they've posted in so can view them again.

A possible workaround is that if the mods could use a dummy account called "Ignore me to hide this thread" and post in the thread before it's snipped and split it so that account is the 1st post then that would work ;)

Good old Dave.... penny pinching Mike trumps ruling a company near bottom of the freedom index with unfair trials and no press freedom. What a f**king idiot.
