Lingard has spoken at length previously about the responsibility of players to use their position to address matters plitical and social issues. Just saying"Let's stick to football" is not acceptable.

Wonder whether there is a large enough offer that make him change tact. How much to turn a blind eye to the suffering of the LGBT+ community in Saudi, women's rights, the starving children of Yemen etc. I'd like to think there is no amount.

I don't do tweets but I'm sure this will already be ticking over in his mind. If he has the morals he says he does, he'll be dismissing the mags out of hand.

If he signs and wheels out the "I'm just here to play football, intrigued by the project" shite, then you'd expect journalists to challenge him on it.
