Reads like a George Caulkin article. In his last one he just let “anonymous club sources”, which must include Staveley, spout utter shite unchallenged. The mags have clearly lapped it all up.

The Athletic has spoken to a host of people inside the club, from the very top to the dressing room and everywhere else. Taking the reins mid-season has not been easy, particularly after such a long spell of neglect and with the team already flailing, but the bigger-picture mood is resolutely positive.

“I’m infinitely more optimistic than I’ve ever been,” one very senior figure says, in a conversation that admittedly took place on Friday afternoon. “I’m so excited.”

“We’ve been firefighting,” one person at the top of the club says. “We’re working 24/7. We eat and sleep Newcastle. It’s all we’re doing.”

“By the time we finally took over, it happened much quicker than expected. Considering the speed, I think it’s gone pretty well.” Much of their work has “been unseen”, the first person says.

“I cannot believe the support this club has,” one of the senior figures says. “I mean, I knew about it. But, wow. Sleeping giant? It might actually be a sleeping monster. I can’t wait to deliver for them.”

“When the CEO comes in, everything accelerates,” one source says. “That’ll make a massive difference — they’ll set the tone for everything. That’s when the whole place goes up.”

“They have to be the right people,” a senior figure said. “The club means so much to fans. We have to make sure it’s people who understand that and get it.”

“There’s much better communication with players,” one dressing-room source says. “There are messages after games, either via the manager or the captain. We get a ‘well done’ or a ‘keep going, we’re in this together’. That means something.”

There will be a “complete refurbishment” of Newcastle’s training ground this summer. To date, improvements have been limited to a few morale-boosting measures put in place when players have been travelling. Ice baths have been significantly upgraded; the food is better; television screens, which used to be stuck on Sky Sports News, now display a countdown to matches and an itinerary for the day’s sessions.

There was diligence in their search for Bruce’s successor, undermined by a botched approach to Unai Emery, their first-choice candidate. That was “a hiccup”, one of the leading figures admits, but they claim to have learned from it.

“They’re learning on the job but they’re doing it at a rate of knots,” one source says. “And whatever else you say about Amanda, she’s an ace negotiator.”

Things that don’t appear to have been asked by Caulkin: Are PIF buying Inter? What will that mean for you? What happened to the chief executive who disappeared after a week in December (anyone heard from him since then btw)? Where are all these new players? How did you fuck up getting Emery? Why is Mike Ashley taking legal action against you? Wtf have you been doing in October, November, and December?

I swear he used to be a proper journalist at one point, although he was always an irritating mag.
spoke to a host of people inside the club, yet no-one is named in article

Absolutely laughable that from Caulkin. Staveley has got all these knackers wrapped round her finger, getting him to report that shite man

If you want to wind them up... point out that "Ashley's Team, managed by Steve Bruce" stayed up fairly comfortably last time.

Those players are nearly all still there.

Then ask how it can be Bruce's/Ashley's fault that those same players aren't able to stay up now. The bottom teams aren't noticeably better this time around.

But yeah, it's Ashley's fault
I’ve just wasted a minute of my life reading that article and no clue what the author’s on about.

Basically the team is doing no better or no worse but it’s all Ashley’s fault

They can surely only hold onto that for another 6 months or so 🤔

Who was he interviewing, Stewart Donald?

You're absolutely correct...reads like total PR waffle whilst the pertinent questions are totally ignored.

  Gerrin, they’ve got ice baths and can change the channel. Christ. Lifting writing that.

"
since becoming a Newcastle fan from the foreign legion, this is a possibility of the third Relegation in my time. I think I'm a hardliner. I have a number of shirts including the vintage Newcastle Brown Ale and the NTL kits. I did boycott the last 6 years of Ashley though."

Class comment from the Mag, who are raging about points needed for tickets for away games. This lad, obviously a 1992er, has loads of tops 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Caulkin has actually ostracised himself from covering any other North East team from the way hes went on over the last 2 year. Hed be better off just coming out and saying what his agenda is, which clearly is Staveleys mouthpiece in the Athletic.
Yep that’s his issues he’s cosied up to Staveley to get the takeover exclusives he can’t now start talking about the disease that is their owners or start covering other north east clubs. All of his type have their eyes on European trips and piss up abroad reporting on the scum. Think they are all alcoholics anyway.
