Didn’t even notice Trippier was 31 year old, what a waste of money and no doubt on over 100k a week, how can they be happy wasting money on that?

Surely should target young players.
Probably because he's a very very good footballer, and the money "doesn't matter" nowadays as they're no longer penny pinching.

They're desperate for decent players short term to keep them up this season and a young player may not be the best option. Buying a ready made player who instantly improves what they've got is the better option.

Hoying silly money at a few players now on inflated wages, along with a huge incentive bonus if they stay up, won't exactly take them to the limits of FFP this season and still leave them loads to spend in coming windows.

You could say they're bodging a leaking roof with patches during the winter months rather than replace the roof which they'll do in the summer, that's if the roof doesn't eventually collapse come May ;)

Marra their owners are worth £700bn. They've just signed the best right back in La Liga from the Champions for 12 million quid. It's literally nothing to them. I'm always partial to a bit of mag bashing myself from time to time but that's an incredible signing for them.

I must say, if it was us in their position, I'd be happy with the signing. Not dancing in the streets, but happy.

Doesn't mean they will spend it though.

They have assets under management of way more than that. Doesn't mean they will spend it though.
It's a weird one, value it assets doesn't really equate to free cash to spend. They clearly have alot of money, but how much is going into Newcastle is certainly up for debate and we'll find out eventually.

One poor mag on twitter couldn't convert the 1.8 trillion to USD or GBP...

We’re the richest club in the universe, it’s still sinking in but knowing that PIF alone worth almost 3 trillion has me speechless… Just say TRILLION & you’ll get why I laugh at the PL.. we can buy a country

Exactly. Vast majority of assets are very illiquid. They are used to prop the Saudi stock market up and if they withdrew their investments in stocks the market would collapse. It collapsed in the mid 2000's and has never recovered and is definitely not a fair game.

Richest club in the universe

Yet the best RB they can get is a 31yr old 4th choice England RB joining the worst side hes played for in about 8yr with Eddie Howe as his manager

Isn't it more like half that? Doubled their worth overnight?

Just going off what that Keith Downie who hangs around outside their ground every day was saying. Said their true worth is around £700bn. I suppose when you get to those sort of figures whether it's £400bn or £700bn it makes no difference. Also they've still got to abide by financial fair play anyway.

If it happens, which it looks like it going to Trippier is a good signing for Newcastle but so much more is needed. They need 2 centre backs, a left back, at least 1 midfielder and a striker. Without all of that it is relegation.

He's a football journo! Hard to quantify what some of the investments are worth as they are physical investments such as in Neon. I have worked with PIF and follow their activities regularly. They are funded by the KSA and instructed to make strategic investments which makes the claim that they are separate absolutely bizarre.
