Mags having a go because we’ve signed a young player for Ireland 😀
This will always be the case. They will be gloating for every signing they make. Funnily enough I remember the same when they signed Michael Owen who admitted he never really wanted to go there. Trippier deep down won't want to go there but he'll be offered a long daft contract which at his age will all he'll be looking for.

Improves their first 11 so should still be a decent signing, however his domestic record isn’t as “starry” as I thought?

If Soccerbase is correct, he never made an appearance for Man C and was loaned to Barnsley and Burnley, before Burnley made the move permanent. A big move to Spurs didn’t go to plan with 58 league appearances in 4 seasons. He’s done well in Spain, but domestically he’s not exactly the “Galactico” they’re all banging on about. Also arguably 3rd or 4th choice for England these days

I never said it wasn't for the money. Of course it is. I refuted that the player voted RB of the season in spain was rubbish and his ability declining 🤣
You're saying that Simeone sounded gutted he was going, hes clearly not arsed about letting Trippier go

His last pay day and hes back in England dont think you've prized a star player away

Well they have to justify 130k a week to themselves somehow.

Was Englands 4th choice RB really La Liga RB of the year ? Christ the quality must really have dropped off over there

Nobody else was willing to take it? Poor strategic approach? They clearly have plenty money.
The Saudis do, let's see how much of it goes into the club before getting carried away.

Barnsley owner is worth about 10bn isn't he? Put very little into the club. No evidence so far thay they'll do a city apart from what the fans are saying. Their appointments don't scream Manchester city to me.

For Trippier NUFC were the only show in town. Plenty of the Premier League teams would have had him, but teams need to prioritise spending and spending 12m plus (I think I read) a further 31.2m on wages on a 31 and has no resale value is not priority for most teams. I bet Trippier can't believe his luck.

I always look at the personal circumstances - he's a five year old and an almost three year old. His missus (Login • Instagram) will have ambitions of her own (maybe RHOC). He is likely has a house in Manchester already and will be staying in Newcastle in a flat. Newcastle are a convenient port of call. I am sure he is a good pro, a bit like Bardsley, but unless they replace the entire centre back pairing and centre mids that side is going no where.
Dunno how to post links but do you think the Saudi overlords will be happy with his wife having what looks like a tadger

I never realised he played so few for Spurs, though I do have some recollection of him having injury problems there.

Trying to be impartial, I would say they'll get the most out of him from his contribution to set-pieces - he's certainly an upgrade on the likes of Shelvey. I don't think he's ever been great defensively, and won't make too much difference on that front (Simeone is a pragmatic manager who knows how to organise a defence, Howe is anything but).

And 31 isn't over the hill, but for the player himself to choose this as his last big move suggests he knows his best days are behind him. If he thought he was fit/good enough to play CL football for another few years, he wouldn't be scratting around at Newcastle.

Trippier is quality IMO and should start all of England’s big games. He’s a quality signing for anyone.

He’s moving for the money. He would have played in the CL for a few more years with Atletico.

Didn’t even notice Trippier was 31 year old, what a waste of money and no doubt on over 100k a week, how can they be happy wasting money on that?

Surely should target young players.

Araujo at Barcelona and Carvajal at Real Madrid was the competition. It’s not the vintage of prime Dani Alves and Salgado anymore.

They thrive on spending money, makes up for their many inadequacies.

Araujo is a centre back

Lets be honest it is a very good signing for them, but unless they get in another 5/6 players to upgrade that pathetic spine they have they are still going down with a whimper.
