You’d be surprised how many people aren’t like you at all. I’ve no doubt lots are, we see them all the time up the road, poncing about with tea towels on their heeds, not giving a shiny shite about anyone or anything except what they want. Now you may be the same as them but I’m not, and I’m not alone. So you be happy in your ignorance and blindness as to where the money comes from. Fact is they bought them and not us. How you live your life is up to you, but think on, if something bad happens to you (and I hope it never does, honestly) don’t be surprised if there’s 48000 out there somewhere that don’t give a fuck. Because they’re just like you.

And I wouldn't expect them to either. My honest opinion is that what happens to Sunderland AFC affects my mood far more than anything that may happen in the Middle East. It's never been something I've followed. In contrast I've followed SAFC fanatically for 50 years.

As have I. Well 44 years. And death war torture and famine isn’t really something to follow like footy, it doesn’t go away if you aren’t watching. Does the idea of some lass being stoned to death not bother you ? Or does conceding a late penalty trouble you more? Im happy our club isn’t tainted by the filth that have taken over the mags. I’d rather do it the hard way as much as it’s painful to watch. I will thank you for your honesty however. There’s not much point in discussing this any further really. You have your values, I have mine.

You wouldn't, and I haven't had a drink all day. You are kidding yourself if you think 1000s of us would walk away from Sunderland if they'd bought us. In fact the opposite would be true. We'd have 48,000 there every week.
I take it you’re a mag on a wind up. If not, then it’s quite sad if you actually believe that.

Decent debate. We have totally different opinions on this so will never agree but always good to keep it civil. Just got to hope they manage to mess it up somehow I suppose.

The excitement of Safc being the richest club in the world and the prospect of challenging at the top, in Europe, spending world record fees would dwarf the much bigger serious message. It would at any club in the world and we are no different.
We as in who? Not all. Quite a few no doubt, but not all. I’d prefer we were successful without having to wash the blood out of someone else’s money. But that’s just me. I think someone’s life is more important than winning a game of footy. Doesn’t matter if I know them or not. They’re just as dead.

Depends how serious the Saudis are I’d guess. One thing is for sure there will be some f**k ups along the way, it wouldn’t be the mags if there wasn’t. And I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as they seem to think it’s going to be.

Have many mags gave up their season tickets? Genuinely no idea what I'd do if we had the same owners. I'd like to think I'd do the right thing....but the chance of watching better quality football at a higher level would be tempting.

Of course you do, I do, so does almost everyone in the world but it most cases not enough to stop them going to see their team pkay with the prospect of huge success on the back of it. The argument wasn’t about your personal beliefs just whether or not the Sol would be rammed every week in those circumstances. It definitely would be.

It won't be. They've got the financial fair play rules now and Qatar and Abu Dhabi will be all over it if they go a quid over.

Maybe its wishful thinking but I still think it'll go tits up for them in the long run.

It doesn't matter how much money they throw about, they won't challenge for silverware, the only players they will attract will be mercenaries and players wanting one last big pay day which will cause problems in the dressing room with the players they already had on lower contracts, it will all blow up in their faces and they deserve every single bit of it when it does
You may be correct regarding the players. I am sure the same was said regarding Chelsea, and City. It is an obvious issue however they seem to have, in time, navigated it.
Will we be challenging for silverware not season, I highly doubt it. That said 2 or 3 decent draws in Cups and you are not far off but realistically, no. I also do not expect us to be anywhere near the bottom come Xmas.
Top 10 and I will be happy. Decent run in a Cup, very happy. Season after improve etc
It’s difficult to argue against it mind. The mags aren’t better, just slightly less shit.
Career in politics awaits sir.

I look forward to it. As always.

I'd genuinely chuck my season ticket. The club would basically not exist any more.

I admit this is a bit of a stretch but how do you feel about the Louis-Dreyfus family selling a 45% stake in their business to the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund? It’s business KLD would likely have had a say in and could be money finding its way into SAFC?

UAE’s attitudes and treatment of people may be softening but still pretty barbaric. They’re also Saudi’s biggest allies and bombing the fuck out of Yemen too.

Like I said, it’s a huge stretch but if you’re as principled as you make out, it must be a concern for you.

Yeah marra of course we would be right behind it  , I really am hoping you are a mag pretending to be a Sunderland fan on here because if you really do support the lads with this belief then I'm ashamed to call you a fellow Mackem! Good Night
He is right.
Yes there would be some current supporters / SC holders who would be against it and stop going. They would, will in our case, be replaced by many, many others who don't care.

This was what the discussion was about.

To be honest, yes. My interest is Sunderland Association Football Club. I never gave a second thought about Human Rights in Saudi Arabia beforehand and if they'd bought us, I wouldn't be bothered about it either amd thats the truth.

The attendance thing didn’t crop up until after. you’re most likely right tho. The morons up the road have proved that.
Thankfully they bought them and not us, and the chances of being bought out by the Chinese government or Kim il sung are slim to zero so I won’t have to give up my club just yet. I can’t say it doesn’t bother me that we have reached the point where a lot of people care more about footy than peoples lives.

I've had this conversation with several of my SAFC supporting mates, and they all agree that they'd be literally over the moon if they had our owners. Yet on here about 95% of posters would be against it, honestly it comes across like kids at school trying to fit in with the 'in' crowd.

I've said it many times on here, I work for Aramco, am I happy with what they've done over the years? No. Am I happy with what's going on with Yemen? No. But I'm still happy they pay me well every month & I can provide for my family. Biased? Maybe.

To say you'd hate you're club if they were owned by our owners is just one' upmanship because they own the 'mags' for the majority on here. The reality is, most of you would be overjoyed. It's hard to admit but it's true.

Anyway genuine good luck for the rest of the season.

Why thank you. I may offer my services as mediator in the Russian Ukraine confrontation.

All true. I don't think it will, in reality, be as easy as I think and, given I think it will be 10 years before we are seriously challenging for top 4, that is some project.
I however am a simple man, with simple tastes. 1 Cup, either will suffice, will do me.
