We now see overweight as normal, obese as overweight, and morbidly obese as obese.

It's a massive problem, and not one limited to this country. No country, that I know of, has turned it around.

There are shit loads of reasons that contribute to it.

There is a genuine issue with people being overweight here (I live in Scotland), I'd guess that 60-70% of the people I work with (colleagues and in the community) are obese, and plenty of friends/family members are too. It's f***ing shocking really.

Both of those can be factors, some people are more inclined genetically to retain weight, issues with say the thyroid can also be a problem.

It's rarely the only factor.

What a bizarre thread. I don't think being fat has been 'normalised' at all. Overweight people are still seen as figures of fun or derision and women, in particular, are still being led down the 'perfect body' path.
