Non League Football

The NL has had a talent drain due to 8 or so of its strongest sides being promoted. It’s not the closed shop it used to be with artificially inflated finances and therefore ability. NL1 was widely accepted to be the strongest Step 5 league by some distance, demonstrated by its dominance in the FA Vase.

Better players playing higher, lads “retiring” earlier and a lack of week in, week out commitment has resulted in a decline in quality. The League has levelled out with those comparable league across the country at Step 5.

Last season the majority of NL1 sides would have been mid table NL2 or worse a decade ago.

All about opinions of course!
I remember when the Northern League clubs were only eligible for the FA trophy and even in that competition they would often reach the later stages. Now it seems a good run in the Vase will be beyond most of them.

How did this link come about, mate?
The Charlton Museum started the sponsorship last season. Boldon Villa was the club we signed our most famous player from , Sam Bartram. Record appearance maker , there is a statue of him outside the main entrance at The Valley. It's just a small way of giving something back to grass roots football.

Having to take promotion definitely having a negative impact on the league, hopefully in time, some will come back having been relegated. Also those coming up are no more than glorified Sunday League teams, playing on grounds, consisting of no more than a fence around a pitch, a couple of dugouts and a bus shelter for a stand. Not good at all.

I won’t be going back to watch Shields anymore utter disgrace f***ing black n shite away kit #nomagshite
Come and watch the real Shields instead ;)
Loses their identity a little, instead of going out on their own and forging their own history they're trying to tag along with those lot. Shame
Are there many Sunderland supporting North Shields fans?

There have always been poor sides in the second division and the gulf in class between the two divisions was huge but the second division has got worse and the gap between half the first division has narrowed
