I don't get this either. The promoters pay for the hire of the venue, I'd assume the club get a share of any income from refreshments, no sure why it would be at a loss?
Remember reading that a big act will say we are doing X number of dates, then its up to the venues to bid to have these acts on, but once the venue is selected surely they're onto a winner.
Read that sunderland councils were subsidising the concerts as well. Not sure how it works but its baffling to think its running at a loss to have 60k people attend a gig and spend money in bars restaurants hotels and the stadium.
Aye but the ticket sales go to the promoter and then the artist, not the club.
If you hire a function room for a birthday party whether its packed or attended only by you, the club has made its money on the hire of the room and whatever you spend

Well done the council for implementing the 'local parking', I hope you enjoy the millions in lost revenue that would have poured in for the local businesses and newly built hotels, not to mention the parking fines they now won't be able to charge.
But at least the locals won't have to put up with people parking on public roads whilst their driveways are empty.

Yes nearly every act to play here were shite and never sold out but if a venue can't make a profit on a captive audience of thousands they're f***ing incompetent.

I was just about to say this. Its never been reported officially anywhere that we made a loss on the concerts, it's only ever been said on here. I don't know how it could even be possible to make a loss.
