Nissan

Nissan is in the shit, I know folks may lose their shift allowance but better to lose that for a year or two than to see a load of job cuts surely?

I get premium time for weekends, when they're on, when we are less busy, they don't pay it, it's a bonus, few pizza shops are after drivers on evenings so get in early and pick the 12% up
If people work permanent shifts they budget their lives around salary and shift allowance. It isn't the same as a weekend rate, it's the normal working week and pay.

I’m just guessing here, but I’d imagine that when you get a job at Nissan you’re told “this will be your shift pattern” and that’s the way it’s always been until now. If it was overtime then I’d agree that’s a bonus and shouldn’t be counted on, but the job spec actually mentions the shift allowance in the salary.

As @Boz33 said, it’s better to lose shift allowance than to lose your job, but it’s still not good having a pay cut forced on you.

Although from a personal point of view, 50% of my shifts are nights and I’d gladly give them up to do all days. In the grand scheme, I’d rather improve my chances of living longer than the 10% I get!

When they recruit they advertise with the salary including shift allowance.

Not a contract lawyer or owt and don't work at Nissan.

If someone is in receipt of an allowance for years, even if not contractual, does it not become contractual after a certain amount of time ?

In other words can they just take any shift allowance off workers ?
It isn't an allowance. They aren't taking something away for no reason.

They are dropping the lads down to day shift only due to a lack off demand and they are losing a shift percentage as they no longer work shifts.

I had similar in my former job. We were paid time plus a third for working nights. It was dropped down to time and a quarter. Then some people were dropped to early / backs which was time plus a sixth. This was over a few years.

Unfortunately some people over stretch themselves and rely on O/T and shift allowances. Never wise as it's not guaranteed.

In that case the lads should take them to court, they'd be able to retire to with the profits
bonus
noun
a sum of money added to a person's wages as a reward for good performance.

It’s not a reward man you tool your earning it.
Same as us with weekends, it can be revoked...you tool

But it can be revoked, I agree it's shite like

Weekends are overtime man they aren’t your standard shifts ! And you don’t work weeks on a night ! What a whopper

I have seen this before. Drop night shift and just have early and lates at a reduced rate shift allowance.

Nothing you can do but a way to save costs.
