Been told there's more overtime on than santa on Xmas eve in January. So fingers crossed the tide is turning. And company on comeback which is great. And positive news before Xmas break for staff and families

I don’t work there and personally couldn’t as I’ve never been in factory work but I get how it’s important to the people that do for obvious reasons. Good luck to all employed there. It’ll be on a stick wicket for a While imo and a bit overtime might just be papering over the cracks. I think this generation will be fine but I’d suggest anyone looking at Nissan for a job in future maybe start learning to juggle or busk

Everyone said the same in the 80's when I 1st joined, it would be gone in a couple of years...

And even though they faced at least half a dozen "shocks" over the next 35 years they always managed to find a way and get through them...

Now I admit this EV b******* is potentially the biggest challenge they have faced for a while,

But my money is on NMUK utilising every tool learnt and stored in its Genba Kanri / Kaizen locker to somehow come through this testing time and still succeed... 🤔

I don’t disagree but I certainly won’t be encouraging my son to take up a career in The car making industry. My point wasn’t about the now or even the next few years it was more related to the decades to come. I’m sure no one thought the ship industry would die when it was busy and all good, it’s a guaranteed wage for many which I get but for me it’s not a true career. Many start believing it’s a stop gap and end up there for 30 years blink and can’t do anything else. Not for me or my children but I get why many end up trapped in there.

They aren't currently producing EV's in sunderland or in many of their other factories.What are they currently offering to rival MG,BYD,Tesla etc or even EV corsa's,Astra's,mokka's,Citroen C3/C4 Ami, Renaults,Dacia spring,BMW id's ?

Not at all just don’t think it’s a great place to work. Heard many a horror story including my uncle who absolutely hates it. Just think it’s a factory and factory work isn’t geared towards a career which is why they have a high turnover of staff.

Aye, part of the problem for Nissan Sunderland is they are a generation behind in having fully electric versions of the Juke and Quasqai alongside the ice versions.

People who join should know what they’re signing up for and it not being an easy job. If you take the job and the whinge about how much hard work it is - you’ve got nobody to blame but yourself.

Can say that about loads of jobs, tbh. Worked in offices thinking that's where you work up the ranks. You just get stuck at low level unless you're willing to do night classes on top of 40hr weeks, or you've got a lot of front (I'm quiet and shy) or are great at brown-nosing.

If I was a teenager again, I'd learn a trade in what everyone always needs (electrics, plumbing, roofing). Those were the type of places where the lads were a bit intimidating for a geeky lad like me, so I avoided them. Shame.

It can offer an excellent career and wage if you’re prepared to graft. Most people who slag it are wasters who don’t want or aren’t capable of progressing when there are loads of opportunities to do just that.

Don’t agree with that. If you go in on the line, say trim and chassis, its likely you’re on there for years. A few may progress to team leader/manager/project work when they are knackered but how many opportunities are there for that in comparison to the number of staff needed on the line.
For most it’s a job not a career path. Doesn’t mean they aren’t grafters or wasters. Plenty of people leave and go on to better opportunities

This ! In my opinion. It offers a reasonable wage as long as you do masses of overtime that’s about it. The odd one may work up but many won’t is my point

There’s nothing stopping people applying for other roles not on line. People just get comfortable but then complain that they’re stuck and the job is bad. Guilty of it myself.
