That's all fair enough, I just get the impression there's people on this thread going overboard thinking they'll be chucking money around like confetti and I'm trying to say I don't see how that can be the case.

No, I'm saying the numbers don't add up, particularly the £35M increase in wages. To me anyway.

In the 16/17 season, 9 players went out (including the highest earners Coloccini, Sisserker, Townsend, Wijnaldum, Janmaat) and 10 players came in. Takeaway Benitez's £5M salary, and we're led to believe that the players coming in (many of who were Championship players) were getting paid an average £3M a year or £60k a week MORE than the players they replaced?

I call bullshit......my guess is that future salaries have been brought forward and put in this financial year to inflate the actual loss. This of course suits Ashley's agenda, and coupled with the timing of the release of these figures and his 'spend what we earn' statement, is Ashley's PR team trying to shift the blame towards Benitez when he inevitably leaves this shit-show.

I'll hold my hands up if I'm wrong.

fair point that, while i doubt ashley will be releasing mega millions (i don't even think the mags expect it to be honest) using the fact they made a loss to try to have a pop at them is pretty pointless, especially considering they are back in the money land.

He has done better than Short obviously but don't forget he took a gamble spending last season and it paid off. If they hadn't of gained promotion they would of been right in the shit.

Short ran the club like a League One club in waiting. Both owners got what their outlook deserved.

Aye, but the truth is the Mags are going down the route we went in the Premiership.

Look at that f***ing wage bill - what the fuck have they got to show for it?! Who could they peddle for money?? Might get a bit for Shelvey and Lascelles - who else?

They are a couple of bad managerial decisions from EXACTLY the position we found ourselves in - loads of shit, overpaid players that nobody wants. If Ashley pulls the plug - and you can bet your bottom dollar, he'd like to - what happens?

They're in the Prem now but as we show, it can take years to reap the consequences from horrific financial decisions. They have not done it the Burnley way - and I wouldn't get too complacent if I were them.

It's a miracle we can now move forward. Whatever else you say about Short, very few owners would take the consequences for his own decisions as personally as him. He has taken a massive hit - would Ashley, or anyone else, do the same?
