I'm confused by what you're saying, is your £90m their revenue in these accounts? Because if so that will include the parachute payment. And that £90m would have been spent paying the £112m wage bill. I think they'll have received £120-130m tv and prize money this year (based on last season's mid table clubs) so that barely covers their wage bill unless they offloaded a lot of wages last summer.

they dropped with the tv money, that will have helped cover costs, plus the sales they made...he took a gamble and spent to go for promotion and it worked, this season they will get the parachute payment and will have @100M 'banked' from this seasons tv money so while it was done at a loss it will make little difference in the grand scheme of things...i don't mind having a go at them but this is really straw clutching at it's worst.

This, pretty much. I'm genuinely amazed how blinkered football fans can be. It's simple business, and Ashley - for all his faults - has proven to be a much better businessman than Short.

It's also staggering how much shit Newcastle fans give him really. One thing Ashley could certainly improve on is PR!
It's not simple business, not many CEO's would have taken such a massive gamble by spending however many millions on transfers and loading the wage bill up with another £37m when your turnover was about to fall by 1/3. It paid off by getting promoted but there was a pretty good chance they didn't get promoted and they would have been totally screwed. I agree it's the opposite extreme to what Short did but I don't think many people would recommend it as a strategy.

Accounts are a year behind, its why he didn't get much to spend last summer. After a full year in the PL he will likely have a bit more to spend this summer unfortunately.

I think whatever he is offered won’t match his expectations. Terrifying to think of how you need to spend to be competitive in that league. It’ll cost the thick end of £100m to get a cluster of squad improvers in never mind proper game changers

What dropped with the tv money? You don't get a parachute payment if you come back up. This season's tv money won't be banked, it will have paid this year's wage bill (presumably about £100m if there was £10m of promotion bonuses last year) and other costs. Damn right they're in a better position than us, I'm not having a go at them, I don't care that much about them to be honest, but they won't be giving Rafa £100m to spend this summer unless it comes straight out of Ashley's pocket.

I just don’t get why he’d start a thread about the mags on a sunderland board :D

It’s f***ing laughable man, they’ll be pissing themselves when they see this.

Have you seen our books? We might have zero debt but the mags will have something like 60 times the TV money going into their turnover next season, Ellis will be getting our parachute payment.

You’re not very clued up.

Aye, which club?
Mate, I can guarantee they aren't laughing as much as I am.

i honestly have no clue as to the point you are trying to make, my point is that although they operated at a loss this last season they have money guaranteed that will all but cover it, while the OP appears to be trying to say they are in the crap.

Ashley took a gamble and it paid off big time. Investing after relegation was a brave thing to do and theyve reaped the benefits this season. £125m in TV money alone. Which is £90m more than the parachute payment I think.

This needed bumping.

Mr.Benitez for someone so shite who operates only with a cheque book gets a lot of people talking on here.

The tv money from this year won’t cover the loss will be needed to cover operating costs this year. An analysis from GOM would be appreciated if he can be bothered.
