What makes you think I forgot the season we went down we spent 73 million?
You were talking amount the money invested since Rafa's arrival were you not?

If you are talking about the money that has been invested post Rafa's arrival then the sum is a negative figure.

If you are talking about the investment in the squad since the arrival of Ashley then it is 32.45 million, an average of 2.95 million a season.
In my opinion this is pretty piss poor but obviously that is subjective.
Incidentally over the same period your club has had 106.43 million invested in the squad, an average of 9.67 million a season. more than three times more.

The reason I used the £73m was because that was the season you went down.
You'd just spent £73m and lost income from the Prem of course the spending had to be reigned in. (Yet you still spent £55m)

Is this indicative of a recent decline in the standard of teams in mid-table and below while the gap to the top six grows?

Since the Premier League was reduced to 20 teams in 1995-96, the average number of points won by the team finishing 10th is 49."

In fairness any perm of shite manager from Moyes/Coleman/Grayson/Pardew/Pullis/Big Sam/Di Mattoe/Lambert/Hughes/Koeman/Clement/Big Sam etc. would have struggled to achieve 10th/avoid relegation with that squad. It might go against the grain but if we had Rafa we may have stayed up with Moyes's squad at his disposal. Here's hoping Leicester or West Ham offer him a job. Everton would be perfect for him the fans won't have him.

Care to list any of these clangers by Lascelles? Considering in the games he played this season we've had one of the very best defensive records in the English top flight, I'd say you're talking rubbish. Your first paragraph about Shelvey and Perez is rubbish too. Shelvey was crap before last season, and Perez since Christmas has been in his best form since signing for us, both statistically and "by eye". You're either talking about something you're clueless about, or you're bitter about your own club's plight; unsure which but it comes across as the latter tbh.

Your last paragraph, however, is correct.

Nope, saying the manager is completely accountable for a player's form would be untrue; likewise saying a manager has no impact on a player's form is equally untrue. The facts however were wrong; Lascelles doesn't make many clangers, and Shelvey and Perez have both improved this season. Nobody who watches Newcastle without an agenda could possibly argue otherwise as Shelvey was awful under McClaren and Perez had been off the boil for ages prior to Christmas.
 
Nothing special to finish joint 12th or 10th if you prefer. They have had a couple of bad spells and were very lucky to play 3 teams who at the time were far more interested in the cups than the league. Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea were f***ing dreadful by their standards and those 9 points kept them up.

Oh well that's that then. That he's spent two years building a team, coaching them and has them playing the way he wants won't come into it. If Leicester offer him a slightly larger budget he'll go to there.

I know this, what point are you trying to get at?
Are you trying to say Ashley did well by allowing Rafa to re-invest 55 million of the 85 million raised from the players we sold? If this is what you are trying to say then I agree with you as would most Newcastle fans.

We all have a bit of bias toward our teams and against our rivals, some people do take it to the point of stupidity though.
