Newcastle FC (Aug 19)

Or £105m in 13 close seasons (give or take a couple of million - I couldn't be bothered working the decimals out so rounded to the nearest million)

Depends how you want to dress the figures up. It's maddening how giving vast amounts of NET money to shithouses like McClaren and Bruce skews the figures massively (this summer and 2015/16 gets us to that £122m alone)

That's your NET SPEND in that period.

If true thats £24.4 million per season so seems high. Maybe inflated by need to get out of Championship quickly. Even at face value then how does that compare to the other 19 clubs the club has been competing with in 4 of last 5 PL seasons?

We pretty much know where we are and hope to get to,the vast majority do,some think cos you get a big crowd that we should be top 6, the frustration was that from the start Ashley's "model" let it slip, yes we "were" a top 10 side for many seasons before him and that's what big beef we have, lots of the infrastructure needs investment he cares not one jot.He has spent money but at the wrong time and the wrong managers in my view ,money spent means nothing if those buying get it wrong, look at the team Sunday we looked the worst of them all .
I do think they have good intentions, you must know to stop going to the match in truth is very hard to do,I really missed it Sunday, fruitless I know but my choice mate.
Top 10 side for many seasons? This is the f***ing delusion we laugh at man!  You were a nothing team before the Premier League existed and you bought those positions at a time the league was changing due to the money being invested by teams/owners. You finished top 10 4 times from 1993/94 to 1996/97 and then 3 times from 2001/02 to 2003/04. So 7 times in 12 seasons over 2 brief spells and a couple more since then. Leeds got top 10 in 7 during 9 PL seasons (also won old Div 1 year before PL and 4th season before). Blackburn also did the same thing and also won the league 94/95 as they finished top 10 in 5 of the first 6 PL seasons. Look at both of them now, they'd overspent and couldn't sustain it and they went to shit and back to being a non top team like they had for the seasons prior to big spending.

NUFC also overspent as the money coming in grew but the money that had been pumped into the club previously was no more mid 2000's and NUFC ended up in more debt and started losing millions a season with a high wages to revenue ratio. The owners probably knew the Champions League glory days were over as Chelsea had come along in 2003 spending obscene amounts thanks to Abramovich and they've even said they couldn't compete. Shearer was gone so they sold to Ashley who stupidly didn't look properly at the books and realise the true state of the club. He's stopped the daft overspending chasing the top 4 as he knew it wasn't worth risk of the huge spend to not get it back in revenue. He also now knows that only Leicester, apart from the big 6, has been top 4 since 2004/05! The days of spending big chasing Champions League revenue rewards are long gone for NUFC and you're just another PL team, nowt special in the slightest as you did nowt before the big spend days and done nowt since.

The mags should accept the team they are now is the team they were for decades before Hall/Shepherd spent milllions in the risk of brief success but then leaving the club in a financial mess. They should also be thankful they didn't sink as fast as Leeds and Blackburn did and that Ashley, although not perfect, has got them far more financially stable than most other clubs in England. But nor, they'd rather moan on about NET spend, ignoring the millions of profit they made on players making that argument as weak as a non-alcoholic drinker's piss! They'd prefer Ashley spend millions more (where this would come from?) rather than keeping the club's spending within its means. I wish he'd done it but then just fucked off leaving you in the shit but not doing what Short did and walk away with the debt!

Fancy moaning about NET spend man!:lol:

Also has impact on my earlier peception of £135 million being invested by Ashley over tenure.

When Rafa left, there was a caller on Talksport who casually dropped into the call that they had qualified for CL 5 or 6 times. They have been in ECL group stages twice (97/98 & 02/03), qualification round in 03/04. They love to rewrite history. Fair enough we haven't played in Europe since '73 but they are not the Behemoth the fans make them out to be. Big club in a one club city.

Well Leicesters net spend is £137m for the same period.

You really haven’t read any of my posts have you, keep making shite up lad.

He's cited it a few times, not just in his interview today. Even Lee Charnley spoke about improving it, although god knows what that entailed. Probably changing from plastic cutlery to metal.

He may have done publicly. But in private it was never cited as a reason.

The reason he left is that he wanted a new contract worth £9.5m a year. And was told ‘no’.

I'm looking forward to Ashley waving goodbye to ten times that when we are rightly relegated at the end of the season.

He'd kept the club in the Premier League for the last two seasons (enabling the club to reap the financial benefits) on a meagre OMGZ NET SPEND, do you not think that level of performance is worthy of an increase in salary if this rumour is true?

I mean, your source is completely faceless and I obviously don't expect you to divulge it but I'm going to go with someone of integrity such as Benitez over whatever comes out of a rotten Newcastle United who are proven liars tbf.

£9.5m is too much for a manager aiming for top 10.

Trust me. My source is fine.

Depends what you value it against. We could spend five or six times that on players that are complete duds.

Rafa Benitez was more important to us than an arbitrary £10m player would be (without factoring their salary into the mix). That will become abundantly clear in the months to come imo.

I'll err on the side of caution and not believe what leaks out of Newcastle United because, you know, proven liars and all...

Absolute shite, and you know it, or prove it with facts

Mate. I don’t bullshit.

I’ve posted stuff on here and by PM to people before it’s been common knowledge.

I posted the Benitez news first on here. And also told people who the replacement would be.
In truth your so called source means fuck all, unless you can back it up, I can say any of that shite man.

Believe what you want mate.

My source is top notch. In football things change fast, so I sometimes take a risk with stuff. Sometimes what I’ve been told changes - but I don’t lie.

They just don’t get it, they never will because they knew he was decent and can’t admit it, they scratch around for anything to pull him down, every good judge or pundit go against what they say so it blows everything they say out the water, better judges than these agree with how we saw him.

Well Leicesters net spend is £137m for the same period.

This is what asking about earlier. Why does Ashley keep trotting out the absolution that he cant compete with top 6 which nobody is asking him to do. Neither manager or fans. Why doesnt he work out out why Leicester have proved regular top 10 finishes are possible on same kind of money as Newcastle are spending-& thats without taking him to task about Leicester freaky title win.

To be fair it wasn't a stretch to say Rafa would be leaving at the end of the season. I was saying it all of the way through last season, for example.

I'll give you the next appointment though as you're on record as giving clues, one of which was ex-Sunderland manager which turned out to be the appointment that happened.

Doesn't mean your source wasn't feeding you shite about the only reason Rafa leaving was due to his salary. It lools like an attempt to smear his name which holds a lot more water than his ex-paymasters and not what he is record as saying multiple times.
