New Music Releases Thread

There’s one song of theirs I really like but I fear they’re one of the new generation of bands who I just can’t get on with (ala BCNR)

That being said I should listen to their album before I go all snobby about them
I really struggle with BCNR and a few others too. Tried my best, but just a bit too frenetic, jarring and discordant for me. I can appreciate what they’re doing though.

Anyone else enjoy Maruja?
Think I probably would have been in 2019. Been done to death and not interesting enough to hold attention.

There's a new Frog record out on Friday so that gets my full attention. Love em and feeling blessed to have two records in a year!

BCNR are absolutely worth going back to as they're nothing at all like that now, and they're very good. Last two records have been outstanding.

You’ve talked about Frog before. Tell me where to start and I’ll have another go.

I’ll give them a go mate. Did the singer leave or something?

Yeah, as Chunky says. They don't play anything from when he was in the band either, it's all new material so essentially a fresh start.

This is the peak of what they've done since imo. This full session is incredible as well, they're so stupidly talented.

Oh they absolutely are.

But I quite like that stuff
Yeah absolutely fair. I think I just get fatigue. I feel like I’ve been around the block now, seen it, heard the rising brass section and landed back at the start. Saoirse is a good song though.

Yeah same here for me. I appreciate what it’s doing but for me, the musicality, whilst superb, just doesn’t really feel authentic enough for me.

I’ll make sure I listen to the new stuff mate, thanks.

Joan Shelley's album is an act of brilliance (over the course of 39 minutes).

Away from the probable album of the year, the Greazy Alice EP that came out a couple of weeks ago is superb (Silver Jews vibes), Wednesday have made a corker and Black Lips have made a good Black Lips album. Might report on other stuff later but waiting for others to post. There's always a post-Wednesday burst then silence. (post-Wednesday meaning after Wednesday the day not Wednesday the band).

Ariel Pink new LP - some decent tunes but not nearly as bat shit as I was hoping it would be and he’s re-recorded I wanna be a girl and it’s too clean 6/10

There's a few of this Friday's releases available to hear early through Bandcamp listening parties tonight:

6pm (now!) Cate Le Bon
8pm Kathryn Williams
8pm The Cords
Some fantastic songs on Cate Le Bon's album including one with John Cale.

Obviously, three of the new releases are listed above but I'll repeat them anyway. There are new albums this week from Amanda Shires, Cate le Bon, Coach Party, Doja Cat, Fred Armisen, Geese, Glaive, Jeff Tweedy (30 tracks so a triple album of Tweedy), John Maus, Joy Crookes, Mariah Carey, Mulatu Astatke, Neko Case, Olivia Dean, Patrick Watson, Perrie, Purity Ring, Robert Plant, Sloan, Sprints, The Starting Line, Tom Skinner, Young Thug, Zara Larsson, Kathryn Williams, Sam Prekop, Donny McCaslin, Immersion, Hannah Frances, Alex E.T., EERA, Emma Pollock, Sir Richard Bishop, Your Heterosexual Violence, Lady Wray and The Cords.

Mariah aside, who are people looking forward to?
